My 2012 Accord had original OEM rotors and brake pads until it developed pulsation at 45k miles. Had a panic stop on the interstate and held the brakes down in stop and go interstate travel with 30-40% pad life so not a ton of thickness for heat dissipation.

I replaced with AC Delco rotors with Akebono Pro ACT on fronts. On Rears I have had Centric 120 premium rotors with Akebono Pro ACT pads and Autozone Duralast Gold Pads and Rotors on the rear (black coated rotor). Had to switch from centric/akebono to duralast when I had a hung caliper piston on rear.

The front axle is noisy with the AC Delco Rotors and Akebono. Only I can hear it inside the cabin but there is a squeaky clean sound when brakes are cold if you let off the brakes slowly like modulate the brakes. I never noticed this noise with OEM Rotors and Pad (they just developed pulsation at 45k miles) OEM setup was extremely quiet.

I want to go back to OEM pads for quietness sake - Akebono stop much better. I know I definitely need a cross pattern machined Rotor.

I'm not sure if I should go Centric 120 rotors or go back to OEM rotors to pair with the OEM brake pads. I also noticed the OEM brake pads gave off a red dust... not sure if anyone else noticed that?

I'm afraid aftermarket rotors like Centric 120's or Duralast Golds (only coated on hat and veins) may lessen the life of OEM pads? Not sure if that's a valid worry?

The OEM rotors seem super soft - Grooved after 5 years of aggressive driving 2013-2018 and pulsation occurred after a panic stop and held brakes on stop / go interstate traffic. Or the OEM brake pads are more aggressive than Akebono Pro ACT pads - not sure?

*I've also had brembo coated rotors and akebono pro ACT on fronts and the squeaky clean sound was extremely awful with that during a cold setup - I mean if you creep off the brake pedal so slow and you get it to groan at you (when cold, first stop etc).

TX Accord (the 950k+ mile 7th gen courier) has had great luck with the rotors and pads that he uses.

might want to send him a PM, or check out his youtube channel, for more info...

I had a great experience with Centric's daily driver grade smooth painted (black) rotors front and rear with Centric ceramic pads. They were on the car for 75k miles with no pulsation until the car was totaled. My replacements for my current Accord will also be Centric.

I used to get around 150k miles out of decent parts store rotors and lifetime pads. I switched to Powerstop Z26 pads and rotors. The rotors are cross drilled. I got around 350k miles out of the Powerstop set so I replaced them with another Powerstop set. Rockauto had a pretty good price on them.

Whatever you use, following the bedding procedure is key for long rotor life. Probably less important on a lighter vehicle like the Accord, but do it right and your rotors can last for a long, long time.

I've used Powerstop on both my Dart and my old Vue that I had for 15 years. It was the last set of rotors I needed. The Vue would eat rotors alive. Stock rotors were only good for about 60-80k. AC Delco and Duralast didn't last more than 30-40k. After a couple hundred K we did need to have the Powerstop rotors turned because they were slightly uneven, but they lasted several years. (Michigan is real hard on rotors)

Absolutely this.

Thank you for the info, which bed in process do you follow?
With Honda OEM was hoping to not have to bed in after swapping them out?
I've followed the same procedure since my first set of Stillen performance rotors a few decades ago. I was unable to find their instructions, but did find this which is almost exactly the same.

I'm on only my third set of OEM pads & rotors @ 162k miles. Lots of it depends on your driving.

I replaced the OEM front pads on my '14 Accord at 30k miles right after I bought. I went with Centric blank rotors and re-used the stock pads as they had tons of life left. I'm at 62k now & brakes are smooth.
I ordered StopTech slotted rotors & already have Akebono ProAct pads ready to go. I have had the ProActs on 2 other cars & loved them.

I was debating the akebono pro act or OEM Honda
Looks like OEM Accord fronts are Akebono “AK” and rears are nbk

rotors I was planning on ultra premium but it fully coated brick mortar auto store like Napaor autozone

I always use Wagner or Brembo rotors. Never had an issue, also great long life.
I think I screwed up in my rotor selection initially
I changed pads and rotors to akebono proact and ac delco gold rotors - with smooth surface no cross directional finish

have an annoying groan when slowly creeping letting off brake pedal from stop

stopping is smooth but creeping at low speed when brakes are cold can generate groan. Like in fast food drive thru

I did not Bed in these akebonos and the rears have autozone elite pads and gold coated rotors and don’t groan (also werent bedded in)

Gonna replace it all with OEM pads or pro act and cross directional finished rotors and bed in

My advice, don't use AutoZone rotors. They are garbage, cheap chinesium pot metal. I know this, because I worked at AutoZone :ROFLMAO:. Their pads on the other hand, excellent. AutoZone spent millions on their brake pads, get the golds
Bedding in pads is much more critical than you'd think. Stillen (Steve Millen Sportparts) has a good write-up on bedding in brakes, I follow it every brake job.

We also have a 2007 camry and I noticed the Autozone, Napa, Oreilly and Advics rotors (on rock auto) all have vanes configured exact to OEM specs, they have fins angled in at the edge shown below.

Centric 120s and Advance Auto rotors do not have the angled fins like the Autozone, Napa, and Oreilly house brand rotors (and advics).

Wouldn't this mean Advics/AZ/napa/oreilly are higher quality than Centric 120, Advance auto etc. which don't have the matching vane config on toyota?
And since AZ/Napa/Oreilly/etc match exact OEM for Toyota Camry, they're probs a better bet than Centric and Advance Auto for Honda Accord?

Honda OEM front rotor weighs 14.07 lbs
Autozone duralast weighs 14.01 lbs.
Napa premium rotor weights 14 lbs

Lots to be said for bedding brakes properly. Smooth rotors are just as good as cross hatched rotors. Break in procedure below is what i follow, never had issues with our brakes other than normal wear.

Also remember to lube your calipers properly while your there, clean well lubed calipers save lots of troubles.
