Hi All,

Driving home yesterday I hit something on the freeway, thought it was a pothole at first, but after inspecting the wheel, I noticed a deep gouge on lower front bumper area:

Immediately after I felt the "pothole" I got all Braking Sytem Error, Lane Departure System Error, ACC Error and Radar System Error... Needless to say I freaked out. Car was still running fine, got home and saw the above gouge. Jumped on this forum and started looking around, but only found battery related threads on the warnings I got. I let the car sit for a while and started it up, most errors went away except Electronic Brake Error. Turned car off again and let it continue sitting for a bit (5 minutes). Came back and turned it on and all errors gone. It was 37° last night, could the cold have played a part in the errors, or was it caused by whatever I hit on the freeway that caused the gouge on my lower bumper to throw sensors out of whack?

Drove to work this morning with no errors and car drives great.

UPDATE:

Messages have come up 3 times over the past few days, and this morning I got phantom braking that I've read in this forum when driving to work. While I was accelerating to merge onto street, it just hit the brakes. Thankfully I had lots of space so cars coming weren't near and I could pull to the side without any problems. I turned car off and on again and then got the following errors:
Communication Device Mobile device Gadget Portable communications device Mobile phone

Along with the brake system light on cluster.

Feeling down this has happened. After these problems came up and systems were turned off, car drove normal. Taking it to dealer tomorrow morning... I'll keep you guys posted.

It sounds a bit like the radar unit in the center of the bumper area has been damaged or knocked out of alignment. Glad you're taking it in for a diagnosis. Hope it doesn't cost too much to fix.

This did start happening when I hit either a pothole or something on the freeway....

I hope it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg...

2nd UPDATE:

I have a crack in my driver's side rear taillight with moisture in it. They said that when moisture gets in there it can cause weird things... So recommend to replace that and go from there.

They ran DTC's and hooked up their scanner and drove with it hooked up and no errors. So they said to start with replacing that busted taillight. I was planning on doing that later on, but looks like have to do it now since it might be (hopefully is) the cause of the problem.

$350 for taillight and $170 for diagnostic. I'm replacing taillight myself (were charging me $750 for part/labor). Crossing fingers this is what caused it. Last night driving home no codes/errors and car drove great, same as this morning driving to dealer.

This replacement is easy and there are tons of videos about how to do it yourself.

Good luck!

When it broke the first thing I did was look up videos on how to replace it on YouTube... Lol. Didn't want to replace it now though due to economy we're in... Saving and not spending, but looks like life forced my hand to open the pocket.
