My 2023 procedure is straight forward, and from what I can research, the same as previous generation Accords. My brother just called me from Florida regarding his 2018 HAH. It seems the glove box door damper that you disconnect by pushing down on the arm, is completely different from mine. There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to disconnect it as it is solidly connected to the door itself. Anyone ever seen this?

Wish I could post a picture but my Windows File Uploader is giving me problems as it does every so often. I'll try to post pictures if that resolves.

Nothing on the YouTube ?

Strange! Is that other piece connected to something inside of that hole? And it's firmly connected to the plastic on this outside part of the glove box? It was somehow installed, so it almost certainly can be uninstalled - but I guess figuring that out is the goal. Do you think any other 2018's look like this, or is it instead unique to his car, something the prior owner may have done?

It is strange. I'm in NY, my brother is in Florida. I bet I could probably figure it out if I was there. My brother bought the car new. To add to the mystery, when my brother emptied the glove box, he found this part at the bottom,

I'm pretty sure the previous generation Accords are the same as the 11th generation. I don't know what to make of this, might be a one off? Maybe the dealer had to fix the glove box for some reason, and used a different door?

Have you searched for replacement glovebox doors, and come up with any possibilities that they landed on?
No, haven't tried that yet. Was hoping someone else had seen this, but it looks like it's a one off.

I'd look at Civic, Pilot, Ridgeline, and any other models of similar years to see if the glovebox door is a similar fit, but with a different damper setup. I also wonder what happens if he just squeezes the sides in and pulls down, does that new plastic piece actually prevent the glovebox from coming down enough that he can get to the filter. If it does, it pretty much assumes that nobody has changed the filter for 7 years, assuming it was like that when new.

Out of curiosity, did he try lifting that arm up on the dashboard side of the glove box door? There looks to be enough room in that upper hole to push it up. So maybe it hooks in somehow on the other end than the normal door side. Why it's like that is anyone's guess...

Just tell him to be careful not to break it. I take no responsibility if he does break it... 😇

Yes, I suggested that. I told him to get a pencil flashlight and look where the arm goes into the dash. Wish I was there to help him.

If I may suggest, since there is a loose damper part in the glovebox it may be possible that the factory damper was faulty and should have been replaced with that "extra" piece.

I am going to make a WAG that the door can be dropped by simply pushing the sides inward as designed to release those latches/catches.

Since I can see where that damper "hook" would normally sit is in the door, that is probably what is missing.

Does his door act as if there IS a damper attached ?

Yes they all unhook newer at the glove box end, older at the dash end. Exact way they hook varies a bit from models and years. The 2018 should push in toward the glove box at the dash end to unhook.
