I drive a 08 accord coupe with the 4 cyl 2.4l engine. I recently installed a cold air intake and it was running wonderfully until a few days ago it started misfiring. Prior to this I had a code saying the camshaft position sensor is starting to fail. This was not really a problem. Anyways my car was misfiring and was reading too much air intake reading from the MAF sensor, I disconnected the battery and cleaned the MAF sensor (which was very dirty) and let it sit for about an hour. I reconnected the MAF and attempted to start the car and it did not start, I have checked fuses relating to the MAF and ecm and all were good, I have attempted disconnecting the battery entirely and waiting... nothing again. The car sounds like it tries to start but it just doesn't. Should I be looking more into the MAF sensor or into the Camshaft position sensor or is there another problem?

I wouldn't worry about the MAF sensor for now. From personal experience, you can start the car and get it running fairly decent even without the MAF plugged in.

So, you added a CAI, and then you get a reading that the car is seeing too much air?

Why were not looking at the CAI that was just put on.

Who installed it and what brand is it?

These engines and many others for that matter, need the MAF in the perfect spot to read the coming in correctly.

Also, it is possible, everything is working properly but the car with the properly installed, properly manufactured CAI is just confused with the new set up and was giving you a code like that. Sometimes, clearing the codes and just driving the balls off the car makes it happy again. Happened a few times to me on 2 accords for that matter.

However the way I see it, you messed with the MAF and now it won't work. I'd have to make the assumption the MAF is pooched. FWIW I have heard way more bad stories about cleaning the MAF and throttle body than success stories.

Knowing what we know, I'd buy a new OEM spec MAF and start from there. And after that, all you could do is go off the cam sensor error you had before and possibly replace it. First check all the wiring around the cam sensor the best you can. They are pretty reliable so I would be skeptical its the sensor itself but anything is possible.

You may want a savvy mechanic to help you on this one though if the MAF doesn't get the car running. A car not starting is harder to diagnose than one that's running.

If you can see even a tiny bit of dust after your filter, your cold air intake was not running wonderfully. I’d suggest check for any leaks or bad filter that makes your intake dirty, this could lead to some serious engine damage since the particles are all inside the engines.
Like other said, you can disconnect the MAF a sensor and see if car starts.

I installed an aFe Power TR-1001P Takeda cold air intake myself, Like I said it was working wonderfully for a few days until it started misfiring. Another thing I forgot to mention is that I had recently installed a new Magnaflow straight through muffler (cut old off and welded new on). In the past few days I have replaced the MAF sensor as well as both camshaft position sensors and it still does not start. Trying to start it with the MAF disconnected does not work either. When trying to start it smells like fuel. I am going to put the stock intake back on tomorrow as a last ditch effort. Is there anything else that I should be checking?
