Ok this isn't a "Honda" question so I hope you guys can forgive me.

My father drives a 2001 Nissan Maxima XLE with black leather interior. He has done nothing to protect his apolstry since he purchased the car and he leaves his ride outside all day while at work. Yesterday was the first time I was in his car in a long time and I could see the wear and tear of the leather seating. There is nothing worse than a nice car (well maintained besides the leather - garaged/waxed regularly) with crackling leather. I want to prevent this from happening and since father's day is coming up I thought you kind folks might be able to help.

Can anyone recommend a good leather cleaner and also a leather conditioner for his car? What do you EX-L drivers use?

Thanks in advance for the advice all! :notworthy

Once the leather has started to crack, there is no way to reverse it. However, you could prevent further damage from conditioning it regularly. I've used Meguiars Leather cleaner/conditioner for the past year and my leather has been problem free so far. Some people like using the Lexol line of leather cleaners and conditioners. Both of these items are readily available whereever you buy your car car products.

I have read on autogeek.com that some leather conditioners have oils which are not healthy for the leather. Any idea if Meguiars is oil free? :dunno:

I'm not sure. I didn't do much research on the product because I had it before I got my car. I'm sure if it's bad for the leather, some signs of wear and tear will show up by now. BTW, I use the Megs on the vinyl pieces in the car (spray on towel and wipe) and it leaves a nice, satin, non-greasy shine.

how about leatherique? Heard a lot of good things about it, it even can help recondition old seats.

That's what I've heard as well.

Does anyone have any experience with Leatherique? Pros? Cons? Tips? :dunno:

IMO, Lexol isnt the greatest for cars. I use Zaino's Leather cleaner and "Leather in a Bottle" conditioner. The conditioner smells like leather/new car and completely absorbs into the seat. I always get a comment about how the car smells inside. Great stuff...

I just ordered the Leatherique kit. I hope this stuff works as well as people say it does. If my dad has drive around in his car every day to and from work he might as well do it happy! I bought the 32 oz clean and condition kit so he could share with my mom if he wants to be nice :lmao:

I will try to post before and after pics so you guys can see the difference but of course that depends on if I want to be nice and do it for him
