Very soon after we bought our car in June 08, a rock took out AC Condenser. So after the $700 or so dollars the dealer charged to replace the Condenser I decided to make sure that wouldn't happen again. I didn't know about the Odyssey mod so I made my own. I installed this about Sept 08.
Here is what I did. I installed a stainless steel wire mesh i bought from Home Depot.

Basically another option to prevent rock damage to the condenser.

Will that really stop a decent sized rock? As for looks, I think it would look better if you could get black mesh, or paint it.

That is pretty good, I like that it uses the bolts to stay in place. I think I would like it better in black with a slightly finer mesh.

He could always take it out and paint it if he wanted to, but since he has a silver car, it probably blends in.

Yea you really can't see it on our car. It blends in nicely. It is a 1/4" mesh. So anything smaller than a 1/4" in size can get through but it will stop the big stuff.

Thank you. Since installing it no other damage to the condenser has happened. It did take a while to install because the edges are sharp but it was in in about 2 hours. Having to cut to fit and figure out what all I needed to remove to get to everything is what took the longest. I'm on my way outside to wash the car now and I will take a pic standing back so you can see that when you are back a couple of feet you can't see the mesh at all, it blends right in with the condenser.

That's a really smart thing to do. I did the same thing, but with a galvanized gutter guard attached with zip ties. If it rusts, I have a replacement aluminum one that I found online. It looks really good too. I'll post some pics later.

nice setup!
this one actually goes all the way to the top tho. so better proection i guess?!?!
i also did the odyssey grill mod, and it took me a good hour to figure out what and what not to cut :)
made a few mistakes tho, but its not visible...

very cleaver!!

Many of us did just that a long time ago. But that mesh is not going to protect your condenser man; holes are too big. You need to add fiberglass screen in front (also available at Home Depot). Should have searched first. Here's mine, with the same 'backing' as yours. Plus with the mesh your radiator will always be clean. Bugs and stuff come right off. By the way, I used safety wire to secure both items. Hope this helps somebody else. It's practically invisible with the bumper on. Some folks painted the 'chicken wire' black, but I didn't think was necessary, as the black screen obscures it enough. A matter of preference. I took the time to carefully fit it behind everything (horns, etc), for a more factory look (much deeper, but still plenty of room ahead of condenser), rather than what the OP did, but again, a matter of preference; it's just a little more work.

Yea I wasn't part of the forum when I did mine. So searching for a solution wasn't an option. The mesh I put in, has 1/4 inch holes, yours looks like 1/2.?.? Anything 1/4 and below I am not worried about. Thanks for the Fiberglass screen covering though, do you have a pic of that also? I also did mine outside of the horn and such to give more room before the condensor, that way if I take a big rock again, less chance of it hitting the condensor. To each his own. I like the way you did yours also.
Again can you post a pic of the fiberglass screen?
Thanks.
