Consensus Oil Brand

Is there a consensus oil brand/type everyone uses?

What’s the benefits of the type of oil you use?

What about filters? I know a lot of people swear by the same filter brands other people despise.

I use Kirkland full synthetic 0W-20. The reason I wouldn't or don't use a boutique type oil (i.e. Amsoil) is because I change my oil every 5000 miles regardless of MM. I just think it would be a waste of money to buy a high dollar oil and dump it @ 5k miles. I typically use Fram Ultra oil filters and I run them for 2 OCI.

Seriously. And/or, just do a search on the forum for the numerous oil change threads...

Just buy a good brand of oil and filter, and change it regularly. Your motor's pressure-lubricated internals will likely outlast the rest of the body shell.

I did and honestly I didn’t feel like going through 30+ pages of opinions and people stating how they don’t use this oil bc of a bad experience they had in 1993. I couldn’t find a quick search with legit answers but thanks for chiming in.
Seriously, just buy anything that is a name brand, synthetic, correct viscosity range and API spec. Get a good name brand filter. Change regularly. Your vehicle will outlast the Egyptian pyramids.

Well, okay, maybe not the pyramids ... but it'll just last a long time.

We have six Hondas and an Acura in the 0dyfamily stable. Using Mobil 1 High Mileage Extended Performance 0W20 on all of them, and right now Mobil 1 filters (will switch back to AmSOil filters now that supply chain issues have been solved for their Ea15K13 filters). I change that oil once a year.

Any oil with the proper API classification.

This is the way.

OP, the oil brand doesn't matter as long as it is the correct weight and full synthetic. For the Accord, the number on the bottle you are looking for is 0W-20. Make sure the bottle has the words 0W-20 and full synthetic somewhere on it and you will be fine.

Regarding the oil filter, there are two approaches here. Get a cheaper oil filter and make sure to change it at every oil change or get a more expensive oil filter and change it at every other oil change. Cheaper oil filters usually say "10,000 miles" on them. They may not mention a mileage as well. That's fine to use as long as you change your oil filter every time. The more expensive oil filters usually say either "15,000 miles" or "20,000 miles". This means they are built to go extended intervals. This is what you want if you don't change your oil filter but every other oil change. Again, the oil filter really doesn't matter as long as you buy for your use case.

Guys get caught up in watching videos they find on YouTube about what the best oil or oil filter is... when it doesn't really matter. The third best or fourth best will work satisfactorily just like the first best as long as you change the oil and/or oil filter on time. The key here is make sure to perform maintenance on time and you won't have a problem.

Do you folks use, reuse the crush washer on the filter? I bought several filters at the dealer and had the crush washer on them. I'm thinking there has to be a better seal than that?

(That said, I'm using the crush washers, I'm just always a tad nervous about them.....)

I take it to a local technical school where the instructor is qualified to teach the students how to work on hybrids. They need 'teaching opportunities' so accept jobs from public. They don't charge me for the work but, I have to provide the materials.

It's a nice tradeoff.
This thread is about oil brand ...
... but I've re-used them. I don't re-use them any more, because I bought a bag of 100 for real cheap on Amazon.

They're made of generic, mostly non-alloyed aluminum (read that as generic pure aluminum). They'll start to crush and flatten as you close in on 29 ft-lbs. of torque or higher.

I've used plastic and fiber-based washers. Those would seep a little. Malleable, generic aluminum crush washers provide the best seal.

Back to topic ... just buy a good brand of oil and filter, and change it regularly.

I'm not going to tell anybody to use a new crush washer when you re-install the plug. Me? I always use a new one, because a baggie of them costs less than a cheap filter.

My car is under warranty so I actually buy filters/crush washers from the dealer. Oil is Kirkland 0W-20. Per previous comments, get good name brand, change at least at MM or sooner. I've also used Mobil1 synthetic for wife's MDX for years.
