it gives u 50 hp ...really if your car isnt recommended to use it then u dont need to ...unless u do some crazy upgrades (turbo)

Does your car knock/ping? If not, you don't need premium. No, it doesn't make your engine cleaner.

Plus your ECU will "learn" to run on the premium and it'll take it a few tanks of regular to unlearn it, stick with regular.

I use premium in my V6. No ill effects and its only about $5.00 extra a tank. I swear my car runs better with the higher octane. It's probably just in my head though..

On the J30A4 you can get 10 horsepower from filling up with premium because the engine can up the timing, not sure if that's the same for the 8th gen. Also, disconnecting the battery resets the ECU to stock fuel maps and timing, it's not the same as the ECU getting used to premium.

Even on cars that have that capability built-in (Gen8s do not), the max you gain is 4 HP. Not worth the extra expense in either case.

I've noticed a nice *ROAR* sound when using Chevron's 94 for a change...I might just stick with it if I hit an oil well or something.

i actually pump 93 in my 4banger...and it seems to not burn as fast as the regular fuel...idunno. i guess ill just switch back to regular then...and i thought its better for the engine. keeps it cleaner..

Nope, higher octane fuel is just more resistant to detonation. The whole "cleaner burn" thing is a myth

It's inherent in our society to think 93 is better than 87..after all it's 6 points "better" and "more"...truth is if you ain't calibrated for it..it does you no good whatsoever...

So here's a bit of a dilemma.I live in Utah and the standard octanes here a different. 85 octane for regular and 91 for premium. (The place i fill only has the two). Which would be better for overall performance. I know, i struggle a bit putting 85 octane in because i (two days ago) switched form driving a 2005 TL to this 2005 v6 Coupe :D. Any thoughts?

If your car requires regular, put in regular.
