Does the key turn in the lock but does not unlock? Same with the inside door lock?

To me it sounds like the lock itself has an issue. Most likely the tumblers are worn. The answer would be buy a new lock and have it rekeyed to match your key. Then replace the lock. If you are mechanically inclined it is not that bad of a job. Does the inside door lock work and I assume the remote FOB works too??

The Honda replacement door lock is part # 72185-TA0-A01, online without shipping it is about $65. It comes with 2 keys. On Ebay there are lots of cheap knock offs for about $20.

Here is the issue, if you just replace the lock and keep it keyed to the keys that come with it you have to carry 2 sets of keys. You would need to have the replacement lock keyed to your key. I suspect your key is worn as well and should be replaced. That is another problem as that has to be done by a locksmith or Honda dealership.

Although I have seen a cheap tool online that can program keys to the car called "Honda Easy Key Maker" and it is about $38. I have no experience with this tool but all the testimonials say it works.

Also, this car has remote unlocking, is that not working? That would seem to be a simpler fix if you just need to repair that function.

So you need at least 1 regular key with the key fob built in. Best to get 2. You can get 2 keys with the FOB for about $20 on Ebay. All you need to do is Program the FOB to the car, that is not hard to do at all. You will need the key cut to the car and programmed to the car. The tool I listed above can program the key to the car. The total should be less than $100 to get the key situation worked out. The FOB will let you remotely lock and unlock the car.


You can tackle the door lock later.
