I'm curious of people's thoughts as to why manufacturers, and I guess the buying public, insist on adding simulated shift points and fake engine noise to modern cars? Also, if your going to insist on adding fake engine noise give me a few different engines to chose from; I'd love to select a Honda f1 engine.

For the fake shifting, I like the feel and sound for daily driving better. Just sounds buzzy and annoying without it in my opinion.

Im okay with fake engine noise, as long as it’s in a non-sporty car like this and not as prominent in non-sport modes. Hate it in sporty cars, just give me a louder exhaust. I do agree, it would be nice to see a bunch of options. Maybe the sound of a V8 😂 or like you said an F1 engine. Would add to the enjoyment

Modern cars are using new technology, like CVT transmissions and hybrid/EV engines. These are much smoother in operation than the general public is used to- people have been driving vehicles with tangible shifting and engine sounds for decades (and even centuries).

If you ask me, engine noises and shift feel simulations serve to offer familiarity as people increasingly make the switch to these new technologies.

Do Teslas include fake shifts etc or are they eerily quiet? Just curious

I guess there is something to be said about people being used to hearing certain rhythm and noises as they accelerate. But as others have said, since it is fake, then why not allow us more choice to shut it off or even give us different engine sound profiles for fun

I personally would rather have no noise than fake noise. If there's going to be noise, I want it to be the real thing, not simulated.

Some BMWs have fake engine sounds “Active Sound Design”. I code it out. There is no reason to add sound that the car doesn’t produce.

I am pretty deaf and don't hear these noises but if I did I'd like to turn them off. I know people with BMW's and VW's and other brands can purchase devices and apps that allow them to change certain features. Do people in the Honda World have such things available?

I am quite deaf so I do hear any simulated shifts, no to I feel them. I watch the power meter while my wife is driving and see the engine turn on and off and the direct drive clutching in and out but have no sensation of it. Haven't tried Sport mode as my wife doesn't like the heavier steering.

I tried sport setting yesterday while entering the interstate via a long on-ramp. I turned the stereo off and heard the simulated shifting sound as well as watched the left side dash gauge.
while I could care less if the fake noise is there, I didn’t find it offensive, so I am on the fence about its’ addition. Take it or leave it for me. If it broke, I wouldn’t fix it LOL

I originally thought the fake engine noise would bug me but it's not that bad. I'm also rarely in Sport mode for the powertrain anyway. Still it would be nice to have the option to turn it off. How hard can that be to add to the settings?

Fake engines sounds I don’t like, but simulated shifts I do like because without it, it feels like you’re driving a blender.
