I thought I'd introduce myself.

The names Brendan.
I just bought a 2009 Accord LX coupe.
Owned it a week to the day and someone ran a red light and took me out. Tomorrow makes it 3 weeks in the shop.

Anyhow, I'm 33, a husband and a father to a 9 mo old, which is the reason I purchased the Accord. I was driving a Tiburon, and decided it was time to get me something with a excellent safety record.

We also have a 2005 Honda Pilot, which has been a decent car, minus the nasty "wet floorboards" problem a lot of Pilots get.

My true love is classic cars. In addition to the Pilot and Accord, we have a 1967 Mustang Convertible that's been restored. It's more eye candy than anything. It's got a 289 V8, which while it sounds great, really isn't all that impressive when you goose it. It's a great summer time car.

I have an appreciation for all types of cars, foreign and domestic, stock or modified. Other than cars, I'm big in to Van Halen, play guitar, and LOVE photography. In fact, I just started getting in to flash photography and have a MAJOR obsession with it.....much to my checking account's dismay.

Anyhow, I hope to meet some cool people along the way.

Is there anyone near the Salem, Oregon area?

Here's a pic of my Accord and Mustang. I've replaced the rims on the Mustang since this picture was taken.

sorry to hear about the douche bag driver who hit your car...
either you're really good at photoshop (not in a bad way) or that mustang is a die cast model...

Ha!

It was a 73 year old woman. I'm just glad she plead guilty and assumed liability.....not that she had much choice though, there were a bunch of witnesses.

My photoshopping skills suck. You can see where I feathered the gaussian blur......so it must be a die-cast!!!

Quite honestly, I enjoy the Accord enough to consider selling the Stang. After having a kid, it doesn't seem practical to me anymore. My wife and I have been in it together ONCE in 2009. It has become a "me" thing rather than a "we" thing.

i say ur photoshop skills are still good compared to others i've seen including mine...

as for the stang....unless its putting a dent in your wallet...I plead you to KEEP IT....it looks like its in such good condition...and after you sell it you'll regret it

and the 73 yr old lady...her license should get revoked upon a mandatory driver's test to prove she can still drive at her age...

Welcome to DA! I must say, the Mustang looks beautiful, but I can't say the same for the Accord. It looks like she really put a number on it. I'm seeing cracked wheels? Anyhow, hopefully it will be out of the shop soon.

You have any intentions of modifying it in any way?

Actually, the wheel faired well. Most of the impact was on the corner. The rim only has some very minor curb damage (that I did on the first night I had it, oops!), and two VERY small nicks in it. I don't know what that black stuff is, I think it may be from the wrecker. He's going to throw the rim and tire in the trunk, and I plan on selling it for dirt cheap.

Most of the damage was superficial. It held up really well. Everything was within factory specs, so it didn't require any pulling. The only sub-structure that was replaced was the upper rail and a cross-member.

Do I plan on modding it? Probably visually, and only minimally, if that. I'm 33 now, and my priorities have shifted a little. I'll probably tint the windows, maybe get rid of a little wheel gap, and a Infinity Basslink, but I prefer it to be minimal and clean. The car needs to be practical, since i commute 60+ miles a day.

I'm open to suggestions though.
Any performance mods would need to increase MPG, and not compromise drivability or comfort.

As for the Mustang, it's not costing me a dime, other than insurance, and even that is only $160 per year. What it is costing me is space and convenience. I can't fit two cars in the garage comfortably, and forget about the Pilot. It can only fit the Mustang in the right side of my garage, the Pilot won't fit in the left. I'd like for my wife to be able to get our 9 month old in and out of the car in the garage. I live in Oregon, our winters are extremely wet, for a really long period of time.....I just hate that my wife has to load the car up in the pouring down rain. It's not an easy task. You load the kid, the diaper bag, the stroller.....THEN you get in the car. With more kids planned in the future, it's going to be this way for a while.

If I was made of money, I'd pay to have it stored, but that seems like a waste. We have family who own multiple houses, hopefully I can end up storing it there soon.

I'm not sure if you've looked into any of this, but for minor visual mods I would suggest adding the V6 Lip Spoiler as well as the Fog Lights from the V6. I just finished installing the Lip Spoiler and I can't get over how much better the rear end looks.

You are a true man among men... +1 on truly loving your wife.

Because, when I restored it, I totally neglected the top and anything to do with it. The top stays down. I've never had the urge to drive it in the winter. Rain, gravel, low-visibility......it was made 42 years ago, it kinda sucks to drive in those conditions. So, for those reasons, I never restored the top or any of the seals. I opted to invest that money in the paint, so I paid to have the car completely stripped, have all the trim removed, etc. So, the top leaks air like crazy. I'm worried about moisture and pests.....otherwise, I would.

I haven't seen the lip spoiler you speak of, but I am interested in the fogs. I started searching around here for them. A couple of people spoke of a kit that was as good as OEM, but I can't seem to find it.

Got any pics of this lip spoiler?

Brendan, Welcome to DA Forum, sorry about your Accord Coupe 09, being damaged by a careless driver. It looks like it is ready to be fixed, hopefully you will have it back soon. I am north of you up in Seattle Area, was down in Salem in October 2008. Salem is really nice. We have a weather front coming in, with 36" of snow predicted in Mountain passes tonight. Regards

Richard
