Honda Recalls Another 720,000 Cars for Leaky Fuel Pumps That Can Catch Fire (msn.com)

Potential High Pressure Fuel Pump problems involving 2023 - 2025 Models - Accords and Accord Hybrids included.

Individual Notifications in December

I am not a fan of Gas Direct Injection - this is a part of that system. All companies have gone to high pressure turbocharged small engines - disaster waiting to happen. The Nissan actually has variable compression - NO.

"Honda says there is a problem with the “core” of these vehicles’ high-pressure fuel pumps. The pumps may have internal cracks (potentially from manufacturing errors) that may expand during operation, and eventually leak."

Not good when an INTERNAL combustion engine becomes an EXTERNAL combustion engine.

The "defective machining" (1% of production by a Hitachi subsidiary) of a fuel pump component doesn't say anything about Direct Injection as a technology. Direct injection pumps operate around 2500 psi. This is high only when compared to port injection. Pumps in other industries operate reliably much higher than 2500 psi.

Same with turbos and variable valve timing. These technologies have been used for decades with great success.

2023 Accord Touring. When I purchased my accord, the high pressure fuel system had to be replaced. I purchased this vehicle 2.5 hours away from home and when I got home, there was a smell of gas coming from the front of the vehicle. The next day, there was a strong smell of gas around and in the vehicle. Had to have it towed. They replaced the high pressure fuel system within a day. Also, my driver seat had to be replaced within the first month. I think I saw some people with recalls for their seat. Also, ever since day one of remote features/app, I have had this not wprk half the time since owning this vehicle. Constant communication with tech support for in car technology.

The seat frame replacement recall is for 121 vehicles total across a few different Honda and Acura models.

Just curious... why is it a disaster waiting to happen?

Some people think that direct injection is too complex and too prone to failure. High pressure gasoline fuel pumps have had some teething pains over the years. BMW was an early adopter, and had some notoriously bad pumps for a few years before they got them figured out.

Meanwhile, diesel engines have fuel pressures that are more than 10x what a gasoline direct injection engine achieves, and they also figured out how to avoid carbon build up on the valves, too. I wouldn't worry about it.

FWIW I got the mail letter 2 days ago informing of the recall and saying PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT YOUR DEALER

I know many were waiting to take it in because if they didn't have the parts but found it was leaking, they might have impounded your car! Should be safer now

Just got the same notice. I'd still call the dealer and ask if they actually have the pump in stock before I took it in. Otherwise, you may still get a surprise if they do the inspection, find a flaw, and have to order the parts...

yeah honestly I'm just gonna wait a bit. I ran my finger over it and smell nothing. I also need to get the seatbelt bolt recall test done too.

Took my 2024 Honda Accord EX for the fuel pump recall. Fuel pump was fine, according to the dealer, but the fuel injectors needed replacing!!
