Just got my 2013 sport one week ago.
I got some air purifying charcoal bag to get rid of the new car smell. But it doesnt seem to work after placing them 3 days in the car. The smell is still pretty strong.

Just wondering what do you guys put in your car to make it no smell or have some nice smell.
to me it is important part of comfort in the car.

I would love to have the new car smell back in mine, but with cloth seats that smell is gone and I'm just trying to get it to smell good.

I love that new car smell. I would love to keep that smell forever.

New car smell is the best thing in the world! How can you not like it? If you really dislike it, I'd carefully lay a container of activated charcoal on the floor overnight every night. Remove it before driving. You could spread it out flat in a plastic dish or something. You can also try Arm and Hammer baking soda. These items can help neutralize smells. If they don't work nothing will. The key is to SPREAD it out to increase surface area, hence why I say use a flat container. Always remove it before driving though.

Good luck

Never heard of anyone wanting to get rid of the new car smell. Now, there has been debate on whether that materials used can be harmful for breathing in but most don't think about that when you get the new car smell. Buy an air freshener.

Take it to the dealer and have them fix this ASAP. It's total BS that Honda will sell a $25k+ car that smells! LEMON LAW!!!

The new car smell can't be masked and it isn't something you can easily get rid of like when you leave Chinese food in the car overnight. It takes time.... sometimes a long time, depending on the car.

The new car smell is basically all the plastics, carpet fibers, seat fabric/leather, glues, adhesives, flame retardants, etc. out-gassing. The fumes (Volatile Organic Compounds) you're smelling slowly release from the materials over time. The best thing to do is to leave the windows rolled down so that the car can air out as often as possible. Baking the car in the sun with the windows down can help speed up the process too.

It might take 4-6 months before you notice any reduction in the smell.

I love new car smell, but my sport didnt smell like a normal new car, smelled like eco-plastic from china. I left the windows crackes a fair amount on hot days which seemed to dissipate it well. My '12 civic smelled nice and new, but the accord smelled so bad my wife and I could actually taste it, yuck..

it doesnt smell bad at some level. but when you close up all window, it is kinda strong. I have already got used to it since I drive the car every day. But other people cant really stand with that strong smell and have to roll down the windows. I know how they feel just like when i new to the smell, drove the car off from dealer, i felt like i cant breath with all windows close.

Yea, I think just because the fabric they used in the sport seat. unlike other new car, it is a very strong plastic smell...
My mom even feel sick because of that when we drove off from the dealer.

I love the new car smell too but mine was very strong - not the most pleasing smell.. After a month or so it started to mellow out. Now after a year I still get a slight scent some days when it's parked in the sun.

Of all the new cars I have had, this car lost its new smell the quickest. After a month it was pretty much gone. Whereas some of my other cars even a year later they smelt new. I wouldn't use any air fresheners, they tend to smell worse most times.

I love the new car smell.

How can you not love new car smell?

Our Odyssey still smells new inside, sometimes when traveling thru the garage I will open the door and take a "hit".

.....The smell is gone...gone away....the smell is gone baby.......gone away from me...LOL!!! ("Thrill is gone"...BB King)

Coming up on a year soon..wish I had that smell back...enjoy it while you can.....

I've got Chemical Guys Leather Scent and it smells a little like new car and leather together. Chemical...y. I would say I could break it down and send it to a few people, but it's already so cheap for a bottle.

Hmm, that's interesting. I love new car smell and wish I could get it to smell that way for the entire life of the car. In your case, it sounds like it's something different than that.

Anyway, one of the best ways I've found to eliminate unwanted car odors is to crack your windows whenever you can. Like when you're parked at work...if it's safe, just crack them all an inch or two and that will let air circulate throughout the car during the day. Or, do this when the car is parked at home (if it's safe, of course). The goal is to keep them open for several hours at a time (the longer the better).

I haven't had much luck with air fresheners. They seem to work for a day or two but not much more than that. Good luck!

If anyone can bottle new car smell, s/he would be a gazillionaire. Yes, I know, there are hundreds of purported "new car smell in a bottle" products - except that none of them are capable of actually replicating the smell.

I guess our only option then is to buy a new car once a year!
