I'm a little confused.

Ohio has had a front plate law for more than twenty years and they don't enforce it, such that one member here has not complied with the law for twenty years?

Is this the case mostly in areas near state lines where chasing every car without a front plate would be futile?

It seems that all the authorities would have to do is put up a checkpoint the way they do DWI checkpoints here in NM and it would be easy to start sending the message and kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Sometimes it's so cold here that I don't think the cop wants to get out of his car to ticket me unless I was driving backwards with my legs waving out the window.

I know it's only a matter of time before I get pulled over for it. I try not to drive my car too fast or erratically to draw attention.

Well, Summer's coming. :lmao:

Good luck.

I moved from Long Beach, CA to Richmond VA in 1988 and I liked my very cool CA sunset license plate I left it on the front and never bothered to put the VA plate on. I got pulled over and asked why I had a CA plate on my car and I said "because it looks so good" and I got a disgusted look to go with the ticket.

I forgot this until I read some of these posts. I have not had a front Ohio plate for 20 years and never been pulled over. Even when I was pulled over twice for speeding both from frontal laser/radar nothing was ever said about the absent front plate. I had a custom OH Euro front plate on my Saab 9-3 wagon (awesome look) that matched the numbers of the rear Ohio plate. I was going through a neighborhood and the officer did a U and politely followed me into the Best Buy parking lot and gave me a warning through his rolled down window as I walked behind the car. He says "you know your plate is not legal" and I said "yeah but it has the correct OH numbers and it looks so good" he says "yeah but it's not official OH issue and you need to remove it" "Ok I'll do it today" -It now hangs on my garage wall. Never a problem with no plate but not surprisingly, an incorrect plate draws too much attention.

I'm also originally from CA and prefer the CA plate. I just like the plain design that draws little attention to it.

These Ohio license plate do not look good.

A friend of mines has a historical car license where it is just plain black and white . I would have preferred a plain license plate like that.

^^^^^I have both of those plates (saved my Cali plate) I also have the OH Historical on my '80 300SD. I actually like the above OH plate but the previous gen was less busy and looked a little like diplomatic red white and blue plates you see in DC.

Nice Job. I had the same problem but ended up get mines from bumperplugs.com I did feel a certain away about drilling into a new car but it was a easy install.
I wanted to go the bumperplugs.com route but they were a little pricey for some plugs, but they are color matched so that is a big plus. What turned me away was the size. The nylon ones are a lot smaller and less noticeable IMO.

In my state, Nebraska, about the only law enforcement agency that will bother to pull you over for no front plate, or improper display of plates, is the Nebraska State Patrol.

Luckily my salesman texted me before they drilled mine. I drove it a week plateless in the front before I ordered a Skene Design slim plate bracket. It only requires 2 small non visible holes. Looks better than that factory trash, and if removed would be unnoticeable. I will post pics when I get the chance.

That's a big enough group to want to avoid and they don't play. They give judges and legislators tickets and they better not complain.

New style Ohio plate

Good job, SpecialAgentLD. Looks good.

This new plate will be available Apr 15 in Ohio. looks better than the old one, in my opinion. Might have to get one for my alabaster silver Sport.

I made sure the dealer did not install the front bracket on mine when it was prepped. I'm still driving on the 30 day tags, so I'm still legal.

I've been driving about 8-10 years in ohio without a front plate, and have never been pulled over for anything. Had my new accord for 5 days, and got pulled over for speeding yesterday. He was nice enough to give me a warning, no ticket. I really need to be careful. These cars are so smooth and composed, it's easy to go much faster than you think you're going.

^oh snap thanks for the heads up. That one would look much better than the current kindergarten drawing plate.

Welcome to the forum!

edit: I noticed a lot of folks from Ohio here.

No front plate..for months and years..wow!
In NYC, if I tried that, I would have a ticket on my car every day..between the cops, meter "persons" who walk around looking at registration and inspection stickers as they check meters, lol, would be insane to try that here. I drop my car from my driveway, half on the street when I wash it, and if I block the sidewalk with the car..ticket time!! I have had meter persons come by when I am washing the car, to make sure the sidewalk is not blocked...( I make sure there is enough room to walk by) I make sure I am always nice..(I really want to spray them with the hose..lolol) My fellow DA members, you have no idea of the crap we put up with our cars in the big city!

Not to mention the physical abuse just being parked. My brother's beautiful 1990 cherry red Saab 900 looked like it had been to Viet Nam after 1 year in Boston.

Al, where did you find this info? BMV website? I am also in Ohio (Akron/Canton/Massillon area). My temp tags expire on April 13th; go figure! :furious: I hate the current plates, I hope there is a way around to get the new design without having to pay for all new plates or a penalty for registering late. Any ideas?
