noob question..but i've read the "fake" ivtec on these k24s engages at 2200 rpm or something..or is that the vtc?

anyways..if that is the case, then why do i always hear a secondary crossover around 5000-5200 rpm? its distinct but no where close to the k20a feel or sound.

input?

once again, excuse my lack of knowledge.

Because we don't have vtech on exhaust, like K20, B16, B18.

I never felt the VTEC helped much. In my Del Sol by the time it engaged you pretty much only had about 1000 RPM left till the redline anyway. Which you burned though in the next .2 sec.

I feel it kick hard at 5500-5600 but I'm pretty sure it does something at 2800 RPM too. When I had a bad vtec solenoid and I pushed 1st into 3k I would hear the solenoid lock up and pop a Check Engine light, which would make the car NOT go higher than 3000 RPM. So it definitely does something before, but harder at 5500.

I definitely feel and hear a difference in the engine. It's definitely not like a civic si vtec but it's there.

2800 is the only place I feel it give a little bump in power. I rarely get above 3500rpm though.

VTEC is barely noticeable in an automatic car. On my automatic 2004 Accord i4, you couldn't feel or hear VTEC engage AT ALL. Now that I have a manual 2010 i4, basically the same engine but VTEC is very noticeable when it engages at around 5100-5200 RPM. It is still NOTHING like my 99 Prelude that I used to have (would throw you back in the seat when VTEC popped), but still there and still noticeable (as long as you are romping on the gas pedal)...

Before 2200rpm (or is it 2800?) only 12 valves fully work with the other 4 barely working
and no, the k24a4 does not use the same vtec as said cars that have that noticeable vtec sound, but instead, k24a4 has vtc
