I used a round spark plug gap reading on Denso Iridiums I got from Honda. I read after that you are not suppose to. Did I ruin the plug?

That depends, you're not supposed to gap the plugs as for one thing, they're pre gapped. Two, the electrode is very fragile so if you bent or broke it, you need a new plug.

I think you mean "needless" maintenance; he plugs are good past 100K. If you want to go overboard, clean out your intake.

I have to agree, 40k is way too early for something that is normally replaced after 100k miles. They're still breaking in

@~$15/plug. I'll wait till 100-120k before I change it. BTW if you're replacing it with NGK iridium plug with special plating on the thread you should not put anti-seize compound on the plug.

Compare it to an untouched plug (if you have one).

Just installed it. If it doesn't run as smooth as before your plug is bad.

Did you try an adjust the gap ?
Just inspecting/measuring is not going to harm it, but if you tried to alter gap by putting pressure on center electrode thats not good .
