Is ceramic tint worth the extra cost?

341 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  JarrettHonda
I really would like to tint my windows to keep my car cool during the summer months. Is ceramic tinting worth the extra cost? Does it work as well as it's advertised?

Anyone have pictures of their cars tinted?

I'd say it's worth it. Your cabin will still get hot, but more slowly. Probably my favorite aspect of ceramic tint is the sun glare reduction.

I have 50% tint film for a combined total of 41% VLT.

We installed Saint Gobain's Vortex IR tint on my daughter's 2011 LX I-4 sedan. It does exactly what @Ash051 says it does.

In short, worth it.

There was a box at the tint shop I used with a heat lamp inside. Each side of the box had tint with different amts of heat rejection. It was very noticeable and sold me on it.

I didn't go for the Xpel because it was over $500. I think I paid around $300 for 3M film.

Yes. Typical dyed film tint does not do anything for heat, it just makes it darker.

My experience with ceramic tint mirrors those above. My cabin still gets hot (black leather...), but it takes considerably longer for that to happen, and the A/C doesn't work nearly as hard to cool it down.

I paid an even $500 for LLumar ceramic on all the glass except the sunroof, which I did not tint. The windshield has the Air 80 clear tint, the front windows have 30%, the rear windows and back glass have 20%.

Ceramic tints marketed by companies whose parent companies provide industrial coatings (Llumar, BASF, Saint Gobain, 3M, etc.) are legit, industry-leading products. This is one instance where getting the product from a company with a worldwide reputation makes sense.

Or you can get nearly-clear 3M "Crystalline" tint that blocks 99% of the sun's heat-producing rays: infrared.

I'm sorry. I meant that for my duplicate post, but I see my edit looks like I said to delete your post. I meant for mods to delete my 2nd post there. I had bad phone service when trying to respond to you and somehow ended up with two posts. I couldn't remove it.
