Hi all. New member here

I am receiving some pretty good quotes for a new EX-L and EX-L V6. The quote are $24,714 for the EX-L and 27,089 for the EX-L V6. My question is, is V6 worth the extra $2,500 price tag (2375 * 1.07)?

The primary use of this car will be for local drive: grocery, pickup/drop off kids, etc. For trip, I will take the Odyssey.

Thanks

In your case.....no.

Now, had you mentioned that you wanted the best acceleration .....but you did not.....so the answer is obvious.

Speaking as a guy who has always picked the bigger engine when he could: If you're only planning to use it in town, I'd say probably not. The V6 has its biggest advantages on the highway, and doesn't do that much worse in highway fuel economy than the I4. But in town, the extra power isn't good for much and the mileage penalty is steeper. I'd say get the I4 and save money on the car, the gas, the maintenance, the insurance and the warranty, if you plan on getting one.

Edit: oh, and for what it's worth, Honda probably makes the best four-cylinder engines in the business. If I had to be stuck with anyone's I4, it's be Honda's.

Yes. I would max out my credit cards and maybe get a second mortgage to for that incredible V6 power and prestige Honda Accord V6. I would sell everything I own to buy a Honda Accord V6 Touring model. That model comes with LED everything and V6 power so $2500 is nothing. Plus everyone will think you are super cool! BTW: I am poor so I just drive an LX.

^^
listen to this guy.

If you have to ask then you have no clue. The question: Is it worth the price to you? I would not buy another four cylinder anything so for me it is worth the price no matter what. Have you driven both or are you going strictly by numbers? Have you evaluated both? If you are not the primary driver and cheap operation is key then the four banger would be suitable. If you are the primary driver and want more than "just adequate" the answer is obvious.

Speaking as another guy who always picked the bigger engine when he could (but didn't, read on): Honda outdid themselves with their bread and butter(similar to Toyo) I4 that the V6 is actually unerwhelming atleast it was for the 7th gens. I noticed how the price difference has shrunk from the 7th gen days when guys like me overpaid for a slow 6 cyl to the tune of 4 grand. Yeah it is smoother and quieter by 100x but not much faster however I have done a very tastefull mod that has made driving fun but for those without, the 7th gen was all about the I4s with the possible exception of the 6MT. Not sure if the 9th gens have turned the corner. Does the V6 has enough power to justify more bucks: that is what your individual test drives will uncover for you and that is the million dollar question!! I think for the 9th gens, the price difference has shrunk to only 2,000 more for the V6s so good news there.

You probably won't tell any difference between the V6 and the I4 driving around town. The fuel economy will be better on the I4 because the cylinder deactivation on the V6 doesn't work during stop and go traffic. It's designed to give better mileage on the highway. All that extra horsepower is only evident when you get the RPM up during heavy acceleration. Of course, only you can make that determination.

I had a 2005 Accord EX-L V6 and it was powerful (though less than the 2013). I think at that time the mileage difference was not not very great. At 75,000 miles when the car was 7 years old, I had to replace the the timing belt and water pump at a cost of about $900. So in the end, I got less mileage, paid at least $2,000 more for the car and paid for the timing belt. This spring when I got the 2013 EX-L with the 4 cylinder, I still have decent power and averaging about 8 mpg more and will not have to replace a timing belt. With at least a $2,000 saving in the cost of the car, from a financial standpoint I am money ahead now and down the road. Not much sacrifice...if I wanted a car for speed, it wouldn't have been an Accord with a V6...each to his own..

ppl, go test drive the V6 6MT...bet you put your foot in your mouth

I bought the Touring model primarily because it has ACC, a traditional 6-spd transmission and the V6 engine. I drive 1,000 miles a week and the ACC works great on the interstate. The V6 works great in the mountains. Owning an Accord is far from prestigious and nobody will think it's cool. But, getting 40mpg with a car that has almost 300HP is nice.

I learned long ago that you can't have too much HP but you can pay more than you'd like to get it. A better question for the OP is this - if the V6 was free as well as all your gas, would you get the V6?

I drive 1300 miles / week and bought the V6 because I spend 90% of my time on the highway. The power is great and the mileage is awesome on the hwy. I regularly get 36mpg on the interstate but...

The mileage turns into a dumpster fire once you get in the city. If you are in stop and go traffic a lot, you can expect less than 20mpg. More like 17-18mpg if you're truly in a city.

If this car were a grocery getter spending most of its time in the suburban sprawl, I'd get an I4.

My interest in the accord was great mpgs, i dont plan to make this a race car lol, so i got a great car, at a cheaper price opting for an i4, and im pretty happy.

The 6 cyl is pretty peppy. If you want performance though id look into other options just my opinion.

No, and if the kids can "Fit", I would get either that or a "Civic" if that is all you need it for. Why spend 10K more on something that is more than you need? Btw, the V6 isn't what I would call always all the time peppy from a dead stop, however on the highway it is fairly quick.

We picked up a loaded 4. Didn't drive the 6 but I can say when the Mrs let me take her car out by myself I put it in sport and used the paddle shifters and was surprised at the grin that was on my face. I think Honda has built one hell of a engine and transmission combo that should fulfill anyone in the market for what a Accord is built for to be more than satisfied

Based on the sample of I4s and V6s, I think the I4 will be the bullet proof choice dejure and defacto once all the bugs or wrinkles get ironed out of its "clothes"..btw, you can always dual out an I4 once the mods kick in or have the dealer dual out your I4 right from the negotiations table. I think a test drive is an absolute rule of thumb between the I4 and V6 for the 9th gen along with the data here!! And don't let the sales ppl distract you! I would even learn to drive a MT just to make the best choice of engine + tranny.

The obvious sedan choice is the one with three pedals, it's truly ashame they won't give us a 6-6 sedan but atleast they gave us the coupe. Use that extra cash you saved not buying the 6 cylinder on some coilovers and exhaust and reinvent grocery getting with the kids.

Yes the V6 is a better car. Doesnt matter what you're using it for.... you are getting a great offer and it will hold its resale better. In addition, the V6 you will notice tends to even be put together better. All manufacturers practice this.

Yes. The 6 doesn't give up much in terms of mileage, but for purely urban and short trips go with the 4.

I must say. 0-60 in 5.6 seconds leaves every major entry level luxury car behind. It is sports sedan type power. If you need more than that, you must be on a racetrack. The car has SERIOUS levels of pull. It also easily exceeds 35 mpg highway.
