According to the shop manual page 22-131, the receiver is part of the door multiplex control unit, which on page 22-78, is "built into the power window master switch" on the underside of the driver arm rest switch panel.

Unfortunately I don't see a specific pin for the antenna on the connector diagram for the 23 pin connector.

The antenna is probably some sort of loop on the circuit board, usually as a track on the board. Have you taken it apart to see what it looks like yet?

So I'd have to either find the track on the PCB or the pin, and solder a wire onto it...might work? :dunno:

Hmmm. Maybe. Not worth the risk IMHO. I've been thinking of upgrading to a viper system. They're sweet! You can even log into your account online and lock/unlock/alarm sound your car from anywhere in the world. So if you lock yourself out, log in on your phone or have somebody else at home log in and unlock it :p. Neat. There's even an app for the iphone for it ! hehe

Yeah but I'd like to use the OEM remote for rolling down the windows. It's a stupid feature if you can't use it til you're practically next to the car.

The antenna looks like that. You'll see it if you take out the master switch and open it up. I thought about it too but wasn't sure how much it would improve or where ro run the wire.

Rare to lock yourself out in these cars unless you lay the key somewhere in the car and hit the lock manually. It will not lock the driver door when the key is in the ignition.

ive locked myself out.. all u gotta do is have the car locked, have the trunk open and be getting crap out of there and lay your keys down in the trunk for a second, trunk closes, you = screwed lol. or actually me = screwed

It's not free. It's an add-on in addition to the Viper system. It's free for the first year and then you pay a monthly subscription.

I nominate BeniBoy to experiment with this.

One thing I miss from my 96' Integra factory security system is the range the keyfob has, I can be at 3rd floor office a good 300+ feet away and trigger the receiver, the Accord would barely do 50 feet..........

Just one. It's about 2 inches long.
What's your opinion on it, how much wire, would it work, is there a risk of shorting anything? Can the wire be insulated (to prevent shorting something else) or is that going to completely defeat the purpose? What gauge, etc etc.

Pretty much any wire, and yes it should be definitely be insulated to prevent shorting the wire to anything (the signal has to go through glass and metal and plastic and all sorts of crap anyway) and you should be able to test it out without soldering anything at first, just clip a test jumper (a wire with alligator clips on both sides) to one end of the track and let it hang down. Just don't let it touch anything else with the non-insulated part, including other parts of the circuit board or the chassis (it's grounded) as that would lead to a short and if you're unlucky, a broken receiver. I've never tried this, but you can give it a non-destructive test in this way and see if it extends the range. If it does, just solder a wire onto that pin and tape off the other end just in case, and tape it to some panel, giving you a longer antenna. It's worth a try and if it works, we'll have something cool to put in a sticky thread. I might actually try it myself when I have some free time as well.

Good idea about the alligator clip!

I'll try it tomorrow and report back.
Cool man

As to where to run the wire, I'd probably run the wire through the door into the dash (through where the locks/window wires run), and then up through the A-pillar and drop it out at the top of the windshield. Better reception that way, that's how my Ody's aftermarket antenna is mounted. Might it set off the side airbag though, depending on the wire insulation and if it's chaffed over time? :dunno:

Well the airbag inflator is basically a blasting cap of sorts that produces a lot of nitrogen really fast, so it could be set off by static discharge or a short from a wire that's at 12V potential to its trigger lead. There's a circuit that protects it from anything but a solid 12V signal, so I doubt an antenna would just set it off like that for no reason, unless you connected it directly to the trigger circuit and by some incredible freak accident properly set off the airbag. But I'd over-insulate and over protect the antenna just in case anyway.
