I recently purchased a new Ex V6 and to my astonishment, it did not have Michelin tires on it! Every Honda I've ever bought new had Michelin tires as standard equip. Mine has Goodyear Assurance 215/55-17 on it.

Any idea why Honda switched to Goodyear? I guess because they got a good deal from them and the tires are cheaper for them?

On my old Accord, the last set of tires I ran were Michelin Primacy and they were the smoothest, quietist tires I've driven on.

What I'd do is buy the Michelins, and sell the hardly used Good Years to pay for some of the cost of the Michelins.

I believe the Michelin are only available on certain model(s). My 2014 V6 coupe with the 18" wheels came with the Michelins, while the 18" wheels on my sister's 2013 sedan sport had Goodyear. I am more astonished that the V6 sedans do not come with 18" wheels as an incentive for paying the premium.

The LXs l looked at had Michelin or Continental brand tires. Mine has the Continental Contact Pros. I had tires on my prior ride and was very satisfied.

I think it just depends on what they have more of at the assembly plant in Marysville, OH that determines which tire you get on your car. The two current OEM tires that go on the Accord are the Michelin Primacy MXV4 and the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what you get. For example, my 1996 Accord DX (the lowest trim line) and my 2003 Accord LX (a mid-level trim line) both got Michelin Primacy tires but my 2013 EX-L (the highest trim line) got the crappy Goodyears. I've seen Accord Sports and LX's/EX's with the Michelins which are much better tires. I think it all just comes down to what they have in stock at the plant on the day your car is assembled.

I can't wait until these Goodyears wear out. They're not horrible tires but they're not as good as the Michelins.

Here's where you can find the two OEM tires for the Accord. Just plug in your vehicle data and it will show you: http://www.tirerack.com/content/tirerack/desktop/en/homepage.html

Michelin Primacy tires were not out in 96 though.
I think they might have been the Michelin Energy series then. I know they were definitely Michelins on both my 96 and 03 Accords...absolutely positive because I replaced them once on the 96 and twice on the 03 and bought the same ones again.

I like having tires on all of my cars. I would highly recommend them to others. :grin

Anyway, Honda has used a variety of tires on the 9th gens. Offhand, I know they've used Continental, Goodyear, Bridgestone, and Michelin at various points on various models from 2013-2015. Here are a couple of threads on them.

Great responses, all. Yeah, those Michelin Primacy radials were the best tires I've ever driven on.

Someone suggested selling the nearly new Goodyear's (the car only has 60 miles on it), and I'd love to have the Michelin Primacys but I don't want to spend another penny on the car right now.

When you guys say the Goodyear's aren't as good, what do you mean? They don't ride as smoothly or as quiet or they wear out too quickly?

My previous tires (not OEM, though) were Michelin Primacy MXV4, now I've got the GY Assurance Fuel Max. I've been quite pleased with the Goodyears, but liked the feel of the Michelins a little better. Noise and ride very similar (but that's comparing the worn Michelins to the new Goodyears).

The poor ratings that steve88 linked to are mostly due to snow. I run winter tires, so that's not as important to me.

I believe the MXV4s have been discontinued, and the Michelin Premiers were very expensive when I looked about a year ago.

To me, it's just the handling is not nearly as good on the Goodyear's compared to the Michelins. The GY's are pretty quiet, do fairly well in the rain and snow, and I've read they last a long time, but they just don't feel as planted as the Michelins IMHO. I had Michelins on my '03 Accord for 11 years (98K miles) and they were awesome (two sets).

Of course, the better handling on the '03 Accord could be due to other changes made in the 2013 Accord (electric power steering vs. hydraulic and a double wishbone suspension vs. struts) but some of it for sure is due to the tires. Hope this helps!

You could have said the same thing when they had Michelins on it. "Why did they use these, were they cheaper??"

MY 13 sport got Michelin tires and I'm happy with it my friend got Goodyears and is harsh ride much more road noise.
same model cars, setup (size and air pressure) and mileage compared back to back over the same road circuit with no other traffic?

My '06 SE had MXV4s and now have GY Assurance Fuel Max (neither OEM). No difference in ride that I could detect and similar road noise (not bad in either case). The Michelins did feel better (hard to describe) when driving, but the difference was small. I did not drive either in snow.

My OEM tires (do not remember what kind) were bad for road noise, fine for ride, and did not give me the 60k+ miles that I got out of the MXV4s. The GYs are still new, so no predicting the wear.
