I'm amazed at how much money I've saved with the great information gained in these forums.
I'm new to Drive Accord.Net, and first came across this forum looking for information about my faulty cruise control on my 1998 Accord V6. I adjusted the mechanism under the accelerator pedal and presto.....it works again.
I avoided fixing it for about 4 years because my Honda dealership quoted a price in the neighborhood of $700 to diagnose and fix it. Yikes.
Here is a list of the things I fixed on my own and the insane money Honda wants to charge to do the same thing:
Struts:
I did it myself and the parts cost under $250
Honda quoted the front for $350 and the rear for $700
Cruise Control:
Did it myself with a switch adjustment for free
Honda quoted $700
Single CV joint:
Did it myself, part cost $75
Honda quoted $325 per joint
Idle air control valve replacement:
Did it myself (with hubby's help), part cost $75
Honda wanted $400
Clock illumination light replacement:
Did it myself, light cost $1.99 from Radio Shack
Honda wanted $60
Cabin air filter replacement:
Did it myself, part cost $19
Honda wanted something like $80
My thanks to all who post such helpful information. :notworthy
I've become a better informed owner and less afraid of getting under the hood to do repairs myself.
