Hello everybody, this is my first post on the forum, as I am a first time Accord owner. Two months ago, I purchased a beautiful radiant red Accord Hybrid EX-L. I absolutely love everything about it! But yesterday, it died on me in the middle of a busy road...
I was having a usual drive home from work and enjoying the new car smell along with the plush quiet hybrid ride. I was going about 30 MPH down a congested road when suddenly a "Brake system problem. Brake performance may be reduced. See your dealer." message appeared in the gauge cluster.
The speed of my car fell to 8 MPH for a few seconds and would not increase when I hit the gas. After a few more seconds, the speed fell to 0 MPH. Traffic was whizzing by me. Vehicles were laying on their horn. I thought for sure I was going to get waffled in the middle of the road. I quickly put the car in park, turned it off, and turned it back on. THANKFULLY, it was able to accelerate after restarting. I was near a mall parking lot and pulled in, parked, and just sat there to gather myself for a few minutes.
The brake system error came up again while I was parked and idling. I turned the vehicle off again and turned it back on. All was clear. I was close to home, so I chanced it and drove home down the right lane of a big road so I could immediately pull into the shoulder if my Accord started to die again.
When I made it home, I was greatly disappointed and shook up by my car's untimely failure, but I was also relieved to be ok after having my car lose power in the middle of the road. This is what I get for 35 grand?!
So, WHAT GIVES?! I haven't driven my Accord since, because I feel like it's a death trap now. I feel so lucky that I wasn't driving on a major freeway when this happened. I'm taking it to the dealership on Monday and will have backup on the drive there. Forgive me if this "break failure" topic has already been discussed on the forum.
Any comments, advice, or input after reading this story?
