yes my compass has vanished a few times and then come back at next start-up. i've had the head unit crash periodically as well. i think there are some issues that likely will be fixed with updates.

Questions on the HUD

Hello,

Does the HUD only come with the Touring or can you buy it as an upgrade to other packages?

Does the HUD give you HUD from Android Auto for directions or is does it only work with the Honda navigation system?

The HUD only comes on both the Touring Trims, 1.5 or 2.0L engines.

The HUD also gives you upcoming directions using Android Auto, which is really nice and I did not expect it to. The HUD will of course display stock navigation.

It's pretty nice in use, and you can set the tilt projection level, as well as the brightness. It is also in full color.

You can also looks at the other features here and download the excel: 2018 Accord Specifications & Features - Honda News

When I drove the Camry my polarized sunglasses caused the HUD to disappear (possibly the brightness could have been set too low) but it was visible in the Accord.

The only alternative is a 3rd party HUD that ties into your phone. I haven't seen one that works with satellite information. Those are problematic because it means you have to set up a window film to reflect the light and take it off the dashboard or risk some homeless guy busting your window for it. However, they can be significantly cheaper with the more expensive models running around $300 and some under $100.

I think the built-in model is likely to perform better.

Or, you can do like I wish I could do, and may wait to do, buy a hybrid touring so I get the smaller wheels with a HUD.

Interesting. The HUD does NOT display turn by turn navigation from Apple CarPlay (or at least I haven't been able to get it to do so). I think I may ditch my iPhone for Android just because it seems as if Android Auto is a step ahead of CarPlay... at least with integration into the '18 Accord.

That's interesting, the only reason why I would think that it has better interfacing with Android Auto is due to the headunit running Android itself, but with iOS, not sure if Apple has programmed that capability. I much prefer Android :)

Oh, also forgot to mention the entire HUD projection flashes orange during it's collision mitigation, so it'll definitely light up the windshield at night lol. It's visible during the day, but thought that was a nice touch too. I'm sure the HUD will also warn drivers to take a break too due to the "driver attention level" not sure what that's like :lmao:

It's visible, but polarized glasses will definitely wash it out to the point that it's almost unnoticeable. There's not much Honda can do about this, though.

I can confirm the HUD does not work with CarPlay. Maybe in a future update? I know that Android is a less restrictive OS so perhaps it's easier to program that output to the car's HUD. I'm not sure.

I can also confirm that the HUD is visible with my polarized glasses, though it is significantly dimmed (but still readable). If I tilt my head slightly to the left, it pretty much disappears. If I tilt slightly to the right, it's much brighter.

With polarized glasses and LCD-driven displays, your results will vary based on the specific polarized glasses you are wearing. Polarized lenses have a "direction" to them. If the lenses on your glasses are oriented the same as the polarizer in the HUD, you will not see anything. As soon as you start rotating the glasses, then light will come through. At least that's how I understand it.

I can't speak to the direction, I just know that it's visible with my every day sunglasses, which are polarized. I have a second pair that I also wear that I'd have to test.

Failure on this would make the Touring vs EX-L question moot.

Navigation/Compass HUD gone

2.0T touring...had only tried the HUD with navigation once when I first got the car about a month ago so can't really say when it stopped. I did a map update last week via USB so am assuming that's when it happened...used the Navigation yesterday and couldn't get the HUD to display the turn by turn directions...and when the Nav is off, there's no compass option on the HUD anymore. I tried reloading the new maps again and still nothing. Anyone know what else I can try before bringing to the dealer?

Hud/Nav issue

My 1.5 L Touring did that also during a trip. I did the latest map update first week of Feb with no issues before my trip. My Nav information started working normally after probably 12-15 vehicle restarts. No issues since so I've not gone to the dealer regarding the issue.

I have this issue too. The HUD and Digital Cluster Compass/Turn-by-Turn comes up completely blank. I also noticed that when I used Android Auto to navigate and canceled the navigation the compass would appear but no longer show the street names under the compass as it normally would. I chatted with Honda service and they said as expected to take it to the dealer and I know they will be able to do absolutely nothing.

Weird little bugs like this are expected in a first year design but still annoying.. especially considering my passenger side heated mirror did not work and I am awaiting a new one.

The 2.0t is incredibly fun though and makes up for some of these annoyances.

this just happened to my car yesterday. the navi on the HUD and dashboard dont work, as well as the compass. Restarted the car a few times and still hasnt come back. Going to update the maps and see if that fixes it.

Took the car to the dealer for another issue but added the nav problem. Was left a vm in a nutshell saying nothing was wrong and I must be using it incorrectly. A little annoyed went to pick up the car and it was working fine...hud turn by turn was back as well as the compass. Dealer said nothing was done to resolve it. I don’t get it...but glad it’s working.
