Hello,

On Christmas Eve :D. I picked up a new 2014 Accord Hybrid . It was the only one they had and they did not really want to sell it. LOL. But being that they are a car dealer and had a buyer standing there they came to their senses and sold me the car.

So I wanted to register here and Introduce myself. I am sure I will be in here quite a bit.

If anyone has any questions about the new Hybrid feel free to ask. I have been driving it around a lot and feel as if I could answer most questions.

I have to say that I am very impressed so far. I have owned a lot of cars (at least 20) and this is probably the COOLEST  car I have ever owned. If your into tech then this is THE car right now.

I drove it last night in the snow (Denver Colorado) and it did very well. The energy saving tires actually did pretty good and at no time did I feel I was losing control of the car. We had about three inches last night and the roads were unplowed as the trucks didn't start rolling until later.

So if anyone wants to chat about the Hybrid go for it.

I was first told they didn't want to sell it for demo purposes. This way people could drive it then place orders. But when they knew I was serious about purchasing it they mysteriously realized two more Hybrids were in route to their dealership in the next two weeks so they could "let this one it go". LOL Probably some dealer game.

I paid 500 under the MSRP. But they added some accessory pack already and added for that. It included the following..

Tint, Bra, Mud Guards, Body Moldings, All season mats / trunk.

I checked True Car and apparently I did not do so badly as the price I paid for the car was lower than 7 others nearby that paid up to a $1k over msrp.

The computer says I am averaging 45mpg.

Grats on your new Accord. They sure are nice looking cars!

When you say $500 under MSRP and they included some accessories... did the accessories up the price? What was the mix of city vs highway miles on the 45 mpg average?

Hi and welcome to the forums. I'm pretty new here too. I don't have a 9th generation Accord yet. Many members will recognize me as the Hybrid crazy guy. I don't have my car yet.

I waited patiently for the Hybrid to come out. When it came out I was ready to buy but couldn't find the color and trim I wanted (Obsidian Blue Pearl, EX-L). I've got one on order now, but there's no telling when I'll get it. Maybe as long as three months. My dealer would let me take home their White Orchid Pearl EX-L Hybrid tomorrow for the same price, but that's not my first, second or even third color choice. So I'll wait.

I've also been getting caught up in the end of year excitement. Searched cars.com for vehicles around the country. But nothing is working out.

I keep tormenting myself thinking I should just settle for a regular Accord EX-L or maybe even an LX. I've had two and only two cars for the last 25 years - an 1989 Accord LXi hatchback and a 2001 Accord EX-L sedan. Now I want something different, special. And the Hybrid is both.

I have to say that I am very impressed so far. I have owned a lot of cars (at least 20) and this is probably the COOLEST  car I have ever owned. If your into tech then this is THE car right now.
This is really what keeps me hanging on to my hybrid dreams. Tell me more about how cool it is please :D

I have one question I'd like to pose to you. The gas engine RPMs at city speeds are dependent on electrical needs. So when you push on the accelerator the engine may kick on but your foot isn't controlling the RPM of the engine like our brains were born to do. In a test drive or two I noticed this and it's a little bit of a drawback.

Have you noticed that? Did it bother you? Seems that I'd not notice it after a while, but I don't know.

Oh, pics! Yes, we want pics.

Or, just tell us what color combination and trim level you've got. We can go to cars.com and find our own!

WOW! She is a looker! And it is the car everyone is talking about. Congrats! Does Denver or Colorado offer any kind of incentives? Cash, special parking, special use lanes in rush hour, etc....?

Those pics are probably like porn for timeshifter....

It did take me by a little by surprise when I first drove the car. But it never "bothered" me as this is my first hybrid car and did not really know what to expect or compare it to. I just assumed its the design of the new drive system. It is similar to the sound of slipping a clutch. Like your revving up but not accelerating quickly. Its not in sync with the electric motor. Once you learn the best balance at stops and starts in relation to your accelerator pedal it can be controlled somewhat. But if you floor it or even mildly get on it the engine will run up to a higher RPM then it kinda equals out when you get around 50 or 60. But the car is not that slow. In fact it will run a little faster than my 2012 Overland Hemi.

The motor comes on and off when it chooses on it own. If your running a lot of accessories it will just start up. It is very subtle though in these situations. When driving if you ever so slightly turn up the volume on the radio you can hardly hear it.

Sometimes the gas engine will turn on when first starting the car too.

Here's an engine pic. There's some stuff in here I have never seen before in my life! I don't think I will be doing much in here myself. It actually frightens me a little. LOL...

One more of the headlamp. I think the headlamps with the Jewel LED are really nice. Especially the light output at night. They create a really nice blueish edge with bright white center. Lamp assembly...

I read here earlier about some imperfections regarding taillight assemblies rubbing of paint and other paint problems. So I had to immediately go look for similar imperfections on my new car. But I can happily say I see none of the issues I read about earlier. My taillight / headlamp / bumper / door / hood / trunk assemblies all appear to have the proper clearance between seams. Nothing is rubbing anywhere. So perhaps this issue has been resolved. Only time will tell thought with the durability of the paint.

Please keep us up to date on how well it handles the cold and future snow. I am in MA and tried three nearby dealers today to see if I could test drive one in the 8F temps and after almost 2 feet of snow fell...no go. No hybrids within 30 miles of me.

Found your thread on a Google search and really looking forward to hearing more about how this car does in the Winter. I'll be (finally) moving up from my trusty '02 Civic EX to this...

Actually I only got $300 off MSRP. As soon as they knew I was coming they rushed the car in to add a bunch of accessories (to make more money). But they did not have time to do tint or clear bra (the most over priced items) so therefore I only had to pay a few bucks for the mud guards, all weather mats / trunk mat, door bumper guards. I was ok with that and demanded it be outside of my deal. I paid cash for that on a separate invoice.

I have not been on the highway yet since purchase. The computer still says 45mpg avg. Still have a half of tank of gas left today. Mileage when I bought the car was 10 today it is 392.
