Im afraid of the synthetic oil and the synthetic ATF due to it thin and light weight mixture. Im not sure how the Valvoline Maxlife will mix with the current fluid I have also since I'm draining 1 quart at a time.
Valvoline MaxLife ATF will clean it out for sure. But I wouldn’t choose DW-1 either. O their choice I’d Cronin an old Honda transmission is Castrol Transmax Import Multi Vehicle ATF.

Ok thanks nailgrease I saw this kind at AutoZone and I almost chose it. All I know is those Honda transmissions are very strict when it comes to the tranny. I always wondered if the tranny would slip if I went with this instead of the Honda DW-1 fluid. Is there a reason why you wouldbt choose the dw1?? I don't think the transmission fluid has ever been changed man so I'm taking a big risk here. Also, the fluid is burnt. It's 🟤 (DARK brown) not black, but it smells burnt so I know it's time to drain and refill.
Im sure you know that what ever you do, this may not end well. There is an aftermarket Z1 atf on RockAuto. While DW-1 may work ok as an alternative, quite simply, it’s not Z1 and not everyone who switched to it had good results. I’d also consider installing an inline filter before attempting to replace the fluid. What ever you decide, I wish you the best.

Ok man thanks a bunch. You make me wanna go with the AutoZone brand that multi vehicle but it says Honda on it. Im still researching. Thanks for the support
Castrol Transmax Import Multi Vehicle seem to be a decent choice. I don’t believe it’s full synthetic. For the best price, it can be bought at Walmart.

I find this amusing…

its exactly like you said it's very risky at this point. See the Notice says not to mix or add any other transmission fluid. Only Honda genuine ATF-Z1. On the other hand, the Castol Multi seems compatible with Honda/Acura automatic transmissions. Even though it's a semi synthetic type fluid. Im having to take this in consideration...My Honda had 289,000 miles and I've never changed the ATF. Thanks for your research.
I needed to see the other side if you gt another picture where it tells me how to check my transmission fluid. I don't know if I let it run and check it or do I let it heat up and shut it down and check it????. Tomorrow imma hit Walmart instead of AutoZone and I know the import multi has to be cheaper. Thanks for the insight I needed it
Oh my! Impressive that it is still going! A testament that they are not built as good as they used to be.
I believe the ATF level is checked quickly after vehicle is turned off.
