A friend at work called as has a leak on his 2002 Accord 4cyl auto car. After talking to him, it seams like its the crank seal. How hard is this to replace and what should I look out for? I am very good with cars as I have built my own engines, just not a Honda. Is there a walk thru or a step by step?

Depends on which end of the crankshaft. Pulley end seal requires same work as changing the timing belt. Transmission end seal requires pulling the transmission just to start.

He says its leaking from behind the timing cover. Told him while its apart to change belt, water pump and tensioners. Just want to know what I'm in for.

He got impatient and wasn't going to wait until after Xmas so he took it to a local shop. Almost $600 but will have it same day so hes happy. I'm happy because I don't have to work on it in the cold.
