I will be leaving to go home from school tomorrow, and the oil percentage in the dashboard reads 40%, is that a sign i should put some in? The trip is about 170 miles, so should i put some in, or wait till i get back, because i was planning on doing an oil change when back. Thanks

the 40% is the life left on the oil, not the level of oil. Just check your levels and make sure that it's not low, and you're fine. Then change your oil when it gets down to 15%.

my mm from 100% to 0% lasts about 10k-11k miles most people have theirs last 10k.

That being said I change my oil at ~7500 miles w. synthetic Mobil 1. Better safe than sorry. But you will definitely be fine.

The 40% you are seeing is a COMPUTERIZED ESTIMATE of how much life is left in your oil.

It has NOTHING to do with how much oil is in the car.
