I was checking my oil today and I noticed it smelled like gas, not super strong but it was noticeable when looking at the dipstick. I've read conflicting information regarding if this is an issue or not. I understand that the vehicle runs rich until the engine warms up which can take a while in the cold.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Could just be crankcase gases you're smelling? Try check it with the engine idling and see if the smell lessens.

More likely to be a problem with your sense of smell. If you're really worried, take a small sample and run it through a centrifuge if you have access to one. Freezing the sample might be enough to cause separation too, but I'm not certain.

Check the oil first thing after the car has sat overnight. That way you will get the most accurate reading because all the oil will have collected in the oil pan and any fumes from running will have dissipated.
