That was AWESOME! My reps are going to hate me...that's my new stock answer to all the datasheet requests for products on our website :notworthy

The paint chip didnt round the corner, so they only have to redo that corner. I am kinda glad they did, because if it rounded the corner onto the rear quarter panel, they would have to redo the entire panel which runs towards the fender. Should be getting my car back tomorrow (~1 day job). Took a few days for the dealer to get the work approved from Honda
Yeah I really want to know what am I supposed to do to PREVENT this before I've even bought the car? Take a credit card and make sure the plastic lens isn't touching the metal beside it? If it is, what do I do? Tell the salesman that I've read on the internet that this can cause the paint to chip? He'll probably tell me this is the way all the cars are made and it is completely normal. How will they adjust it before I buy the car?
I have my car at the dealer for this very issue right now. They have it at the body shop across the street currently, taking pictures to send to Honda I think.

Maybe if Honda didn't use the worlds worst paint, then plastic touching it wouldn't chip it off?

I want my VW paint back, that stuff was bulletproof =(
So what is the fix??????? From the Google search it sounds like this has been an ONGOING ISSUE for Accords even in gen 7 and gen 8.......I guess in their quest to make everything "tight" and tolerances small, they are ending up with rubbing rear lenses.

Question - when it does rub does it just flake the top paint off to expose the galvanized and primed metal below? Or can it rub thru that too? If the former, maybe I care less, but if the latter and it can rust, then yes I care LOTS!
but my question is how are they going to prevent it from happening in the future after they respray it

I found that I have some paint chipping near my headlights. I'm going to pull the headlights out and use some touch up paint.

I'm probably going to try to clearbra that space so it doesn't happen again. I have everything I need already, so its worth a shot.

inspect the heck out of the car before delivery, every inch of it from every angle, on a sunny day. the paint on these cars is not only thin and weak, but several users have found factory defects. the chip between my rear bumper and tail light was there from the start but i didn't see it until a month after delivery cause i didn't scrutinize the car in agonizing detail (didn't think Honda's needed that level of scrutiny, but obviously their QA folks aren't doing their job).
I just got my car back today. Ignore all the yellow crap. Pollen overtakes my car within minutes of being cleaned. Car West in San Jose did a pretty good job on fixing the spot, and they made sure the taillight had some clearance from the paint this time. Luckily my dealership uses one of the best body shops in town, and they offer lifetime guarantees on all their work.

If it were me, I'd just take it to the dealership and let them handle it. Just make sure they use a reputable body shop. This way, if some reason the paint ever fails there, they have a record of it. This would also let Honda know that this is starting to appear on these new models also.

My dealership had no qualms with giving me a rental car in the mean time, but they said it should only take a day or so and it only took them from drop off in morning till tomorrow evening to finish it, so I didn't bother with a rental.
Just noticed today I have a chip about 1/2 long along my driver side headlight. F'g PISSED about the quality (or lack there of) of the paint on this car. Just had it to the dealer for debris under the paint on the back corner of the roof...They just flicked it off, touched it up and handed me the touch up container. Noticed a debris spot on the trunk deck as well today when I popped it open. I can't even get a fingernail between any of the head/tail lights and the fenders or rear quarters. This is going to be a fight, I can see it already!

Great....make me feel queasy as I am soliciting quotes on a 2014 V6 Crystal Black Pearl right now.....
lol...I keep telling myself at least it's not an Altima! Cosmetics can be easily remedied...

yes and no....I mean they shouldnt let the paint get rubbed off because of a defect. I DONT CARE if its not noticeable as long as it doesn't disturb the galvanized part of the metal and develop rust. If it rusts, then heck yeah of course we care
i can honestly say the paint quality on the 9th gen is down compared to the 8th gen, seems like they're using softer and softer paints, and also when i went to the dealer the f'er there was telling me that the tail light is a fixed piece and no way that it would rub on the fender, but then i started to walk around and 4/5 cars had the same issue and i pointed it out to him and he didn't know what to say
Mine has it on the right side tail lamp. The fit of the lamp is VERY tight on that side as well as my left headlight (no paint worn there yet though)
My DPSM will be by my work Monday and I will have her look at it. Being *** I honestly would rather just remove the light, touch up the spot and reinstall either a new lamp unit or adjust the fit of my current vs having to respray the area. We got in 5 *** Sport before I found one that had all body panels/bumpers that matched.

Don't worry so much. Take a look at other accords on the lot to get a good idea of what kind of clearance the headlights/tailights should have from the paint. From there, you can make a good decision on which Black car has the best chance of not having this problem after you purchase. In the event that it does occur, the service department director will most likely take pictures, send them to Honda to get approval for the repair work, and you will be out of a car(and into a rental) for a couple days max.

Honestly, I love my coupe, and I am sure you'll love your accord too. Don't let a small thing get in the way of it.
