Hi I'm looking for advice if anybody had this issue with 18' alloy sport wheels. Recently I noticed on all 4 wheels on edges white spots looks like mold kind of grooving under paint finish. I took it to dealer and first they try to convince me if it is curb rush but surfaced its not scratched its kind of bubbling up. Finally they admitted this is corrosion pitted wheels and they want to refinished it but I want to fight against it and demand from Honda new factory wheels only 6000 miles on it prefect condition and I know refinish doesn't look perfect and after time can crack or peal off. Anybody with this problem how to solve it? Thnx :dunno:

Don't let them refinish the wheels. The clear coat will not be as durable as the factory wheel finish.
They are admitting to the flaw, so make them replace all four.

I am very interested to see how you negotiate and what you end up with- new wheels or re-finished....

You should put your location in the upper right corner. Do you live in Haiti or in upstate New York?

Same thing with mine they refinished them and looked like sh*t the faces of wheel are not painted just have clear on them they sanded down wheels painted light gray looked horrible you could tell every spot they messed with they even ground into my tire then argued with me that they looked fine and that ground marks in tire were from me hitting something. But I didn't even leave dealer service drive and said wtf and started talking long story short they swapped my wheels with a new sport wheels I guess sports come with Goodyear tires ? Cause I don't have my Michelin tires anymore. But It took forever for them to finally swap with new car while mines has 12,000 miles. Anyways in pic you can see the painted wheels and how they got light color on dark part. And try to tell me they didn't grind into my tire. Even if it's a little they still did

Dealer try to tell me if refinishing is ok but I told them no way. I called Honda customer service and told them what is a whole story about corroded wheels and they contacted dealer.Dealer called me and told me if they will replace my wheels as a ONE TIME GOOD WILL .....Bull crap talking as always it should be covered under warranty with out any problems. Thanks for help **DONNY80** and for advices.

The OEM Sport wheels have a machined face with a clear powdercoat.

The only way to get that finish back after damage is to get it machined and recoated.

There is no paint that which match a machined aluminum look.

What he said. The wheels clearly have a machined finish so I'm baffled that the dealer thought it was okay to simply repaint the wheels.

I found one spot on my wheel that seemed corroded. I ended up cleaning it and applying some clear over it. If possible, post a picture of your damaged wheels so others know what to look for in the event they run into this issue.

It sounds like you got them to replace the wheel which was the only acceptable way to resolve the issue. I'd consider searching for a new dealer once you've got your new wheel.

So they replacing a four wheels?

I was washing my car a couple of days ago and thought to myself how good the fit and finish were on these wheels.

I've got 15k miles and live through Chicago winters and salted roads so they're holding up pretty good so far.

Interesting OP is from Chicago area....

Chicago uses 3x the amount of road salt for the same square footage than does nearby Milwaukee, WI.

That salt will eat at the clear coat and if there is so much as a scratch on the wheel- will corrode the wheel immediately.

I always use a cheap wax such as Turtle Wax and apply it onto my Acura wheels very heavily (like a Hollywood hooker wears make-up) in November....

It depends. I bought my 2005 Magnum as a Demo with 3400mi on it. A few months later (3) of the wheels started showing some corrosion around the center caps. Chrysler agreed to warranty. When I picked up the car I saw on the Service slip it said (Reman) on the slip but the wheels looked fantastic so I went with it. The service advisor said that is how Chrysler handlles it.

In the fall I could always tell the OE wheel when I polished them to put them up for the winter. The (3) reman looked better, had thicker clear and no orange peel compared to the OE wheel. I often wished I had warrantied the 4th wheel.

The paint looks like chrome in that pic.

If you drove through road salted areas with them, then that's your problem... road salt.

If they're replacing them with a set of new wheels, then consider yourself lucky. Don't forget to thank them profusely. And so you don't go blaming Honda for defective wheels next year, get yourself a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires if you don't have a set already.

Before you will said so ask first about winter wheels yes I do have set of Honda's wheels with snow tires. Those corroded wheels never seen snow or salt those are defected wheels that's all I want to say. Rust under finish is rust that's why I bought new car with warranty.

I have 16K on mine and so far they are holding up well. I've been hitting them with Wheel Wax every couple of months. I've had really bad issues with it on Ford and Jeep wheels so I figure it can't hurt! I live in CT so the salt/sand is really a problem.

I try to show You guys how my pitted wheels looks like here are some pics. From far look like curb rush when You look close at touch it it`s bubbly look like growing.
