alright
so i have the LX-S Coupe 2010
and was wondering if there is a difference on using the Premium Gas over the regular one.
Cause i dont really want to spend alot more if i really need the Premium Gas

If you look at your Honda manual, it says to use Regular gas. I've been using Regular gas and it's running great!

BTW I really enjoyed reading my manual. I got a chance to learn all these cool, new features in my car, like homelink, bluetooth, active head restraints, rear defogger, rearview mirror anti-glare function, heated seats, etc. It blew my mind! Granted, the last car I had was a 1994 Honda Accord.

Read what your car is recommended for and stick with it. The base model is definitely not going to need premium if the v6 doesn't.

No sense in spending an extra .30cent per gallon for something you do not benefit from other than saying "I USE PREMIUM TEEHEE!"

^ ^+1 you couldn't have say it any better..

The ECU is calibrated to perform acceptably on regular. Timing advance will be greater with premium. Can you tell the difference, maybe.
If you could change the timing curves premium could be beneficial.

I ALWAYS/ONLY put Premium gas on all my cars..
i also only fill my car up with premium.
the manual says our cars are recommended to use 87 OR HIGHER.
higher octane burns cleaner. which is better for our engine. not to mention better gas mileage which equals fewer trips to the pump.

Either K24 in the Accord or the J35Z2 and Z3 do not have high octane requirements. They were engineered to run efficiently, smoothly, reliably, and with full advertised power on regular 87 octane fuel.

Their higher performance counterparts in the Civic Si and Acura TL DO require high octane due to higher compression and different timing.

You will not yield better fuel economy and will find minimal if any performance changes with higher grade fuel. As was stated by a previous post, timing and compression are not advanced. These engines are dialed back so any difference you find will be minimum at best.

There is no need to use high octane fuel in any Accord engine.

Dude seriously, try to search, not to be a di** but we just had a topic about this last week.

In a daily driven car, its almost pointless to burn anything other than what the manufacturer recommends.

I use premium when in canada and ONLY because the fuel has 0% ethanol in it when your pumping at shell, (dont ask me to prove it, i already posted pics, and docs in another of these posts) in the US it makes no difference so i just go regular... But call it psych, but always feel like premium gets me better milage and a little smoother excel out of my car... But that might just be cause I know its premium in the tank... Save your money, this aint a race car... Octane wont do you too much good stock...

I'm the one that have always advocate to use 87 on the Accord since that is what Honda recommend and there is no point using higher octane. And there isn't. I have always used 87 since I bought the car 2 years ago. However, last three tanks, I tried 93 since it's getting pretty hot around here (90+). So far, the most obvious difference is mileage increment of 1-2+mpg. I do keep an extensive record of the mileage. I will post the chart after a few more tanks for it to normalize. Performance wise, I can't really prove it since it's my butt dyno, but the car seems to like 93 octane quite a bit. I suspect a smart ECU at play here.

So to sums things up: USE REGULAR

I ALWAYS/ONLY put Premium gas on all my cars..
Overspending....

Premium is a waste, car doesnt take advantage of it

Totally agree.

I don't think that anyone has posted a lenghty enough trial to validate this claim.
For me if you have a gain, it is going to be very hard to prove...

Agreed, don't re-ivent the wheel. And please look up for and post follow ups in existing threads (unless you felt nice starting your own :naughty:

If you do the the test, run it for a lot longer than a few tanks!

Please stop with the misinformation. Higher octane fuel is NOT cleaner. It simply resists detonation better than 87.
I used premium for 1200 miles and noticed no difference in mileage or performance. It's your own money so waste it if you want.

I typically alternate between regular & premium.

I really wish people would search on this forum. It seems like one of these threads pops up every week along with a thread on which coilovers to buy and one on which hid kit to get. One about which sway bar to get pops up almost every day.

If you are putting premium in your car in which is programmed to run on regular you are pouring your money down the drain and don’t understand how a rom on a car’s ecu works. On the 98-02 Accord v6’s it was dyno proven that putting in a higher octane fuel on stock ignition timing actually created a loss in power by 5whp. Not to mention you will foul your spark plugs and o2 sensors in your exhaust significantly faster from running rich. I’ve already posted this before and some of the same members from that thread are posting in this one saying that they still swear by premium. Comical.
