I have 2020 Accord Hybrid

Everywhere I look it says that only 2.3-2.6qt should drain from the transmission, but I drained just over 4.5qt. How is it possible?
And, yes, this is definitely the transmission fluid that I drained - I know which drain plug and it is dirty red and smells like ATF.

Now just before the drain, I changed the coolant, and ran the engine for about 20 minutes in Maintenance Mode. Could that have affected the amount of fluid that drained from transmission?

The car has 88k miles, and I bought it used CPO at 31k miles. I doubt the transmission fluid would have been incorrectly refilled before 31k.But it is possible, maybe some idiot poured in more than the required amount.

Any ideas?

I am debating just pouring in the exact amount that I drained.

BTW, when I opened the fill plug about 2qt of fluid rushed out and made a total mess because I was expecting at most a dribble.

Here is the schematic with the fill plug (at 2:31 time)

After reading more about it, I think some idiot mechanic just overfilled the fluid (what drained is about 2x of what should normally drain). I will just follow the standard procedure to fill in the correct amount, rather than pouring back the exact amount that had drained.

Ok, so I still had the printout of the CarFax from when I bought the car. It shows that at 31,103 miles the transmission was serviced at Vandergriff Honda in Arlington, TX as part of the CPO prep. I did not touch the transmission since then (currently 88k miles) so it must have been the dealership that messed up the fluid level.

So I did proper refill procedure, went for a drive, and then checked the fluid level again, and I added overall only about 2.3qt, so the transmission was definitely overfilled.
That means that I was driving with an overfill of about 2.3qt for about 57k miles. I wonder if that caused some damage to the transmission.

(I've got a 2019 Hybrid Touring Accord)

Going to do the trans fluid change....don't see an obvious place ABOVE the engine..... head to internet and just want to confirm:

Do I see things correctly, that I have to add the new fluid from essentially below the engine as there is no fill hole accessable from above the engine?

Brain says that can't be....but then see people pumping in the fluid.... then (over several videos) realize they weren't always a 2019 HAH. They might have been manual transmission, one which stated Honda, when it finished they were actually showing a Volvo or something. (my wife interrupted me and the video went to the next video) So yes, always blame the wife!

:)

If the fill is from under the car, where's the drip hole/plug?

I think the "standard" procedure is to pump it into the drip hole.

I believe there is also some way to dump the fluid in the top, but I'm not sure.

I got a transfer pump for our Pilot which uses a similar procedure. I always make a mess with it!

Yep, ran into town, got a "syringe" pump..... proceeded to make a modest mess.

Hood was up, drivers & rear passenger windows down. Bottom engine cover off, car up on ramps. Couple tools laying about along with 2-3 sheets of shop towels. Bucket of old oil, bottles of new oil sitting about.

And then it happened. Thunder.

Well.... I better hurry.

HA, think again, said God from above as the heavens unloaded.... we had a torrential downpour. Saw it coming as the rain started to drizzle so I grabbed some of the tools, closed hood....(notice I did NOT mention that I closed the windows)

Deluge started.... I realized windows down so had to run into house to get keys (keep in mind I'm wearing dirty and now wet clothes)..... run back out, start car accessories to roll windows up.

Sigh....

It was a fiasco, and THEN, I have to finish the job. I had to lay in the gravel (now wet WITH puddles) driveway to scoot under car to get the underside buttoned up. Speaking of buttoning up.....did I mention that all but one of the "holders" that hold the bottom cover pan had fallen into the gravel which happens to be similar gray in color AND now everything was under some water as the water in places was 2" deep....

Of course, 20 minutes later the little storm was gone and the sun was out.

Go figure.

Wow that's a lot of extra fluid.. Mine was overfilled from the factory but not that much. Maybe a pint.
Honda does say pump fluid into the fill hole but there is an extra hole up top you can put fluid into.

I did mine at 150k, had never been touched. 4ish quarts came out, still looking clean. I ended up putting in exactly what came out. Now at 250k still running fine and will do it again.
