2015 exl, battery died and now remote start won't work. It's the factory one that uses the smart key fob. I try to start it and the lights just flash at me.

Does it need a dealer reprogram? Or cN I do it myself?

Make sure it is enabled in settings. Also, if the vehicles engine was shut off say in neutral gear, then you shifted to p, then it won't start via remote start. Complete a drive cycle, shift to p, cut the engine off. Try to start via remote. Engine won't start under certain conditions, refer to manual, I believe they mentioned temperature and oil as the reasons.
