We purchased a 2014 XL-v6 Accord about two week or so ago. My wife and I have debating whether these hooks we see on each side of our trunk are meant to approach a net of some type or if they are just there as a "button" to the trunk carpeting.

If for hooks, there is not a top and bottom hook like I've had with previous nets, just one on each side.

Nothing in manual about it unless we overlooked it.

Incredibly lame question I realize but are these hooks for some day to day purpose beyond buttoning the carpet down? Just for tying line across from end to end if needed?

Thanks.

If they're the hooks on the side of your trunk they are for hooking your grocery bags so they don't slide around while driving. They can also be used to add a net. They are described in my coupe manual on page 139 as "cargo hooks".

Yes good reply. And in sedan manual page 162 I think.

Note, these are not the same hooks used/needed/required/suggested as for the Honda OEM add on cargo net and hooks which require a beefier install of the added hooks. Using a rivenut tool, although we have gotten around that requirement. That net requires four hooks. You add two new ones and remove the two currently there, which you see now.

There are also bigger honda add on cargo tri hooks that can be added under the trunk speaker deck.

I think they are mostly for the net. I installed a set of the bag hooks.. they are a great addition for those plastic grocery bags.

I've heard the cargo net install is quite the job, not to mention the special tool that makes it easier that you mentioned.

By the way, Go Bruins! Here's to hoping they can keep up their current pace...

Cargo net install is a piece of cake. You can make the tool, as I did, for about $3. Used the tool to install the cargo net and a pair of bag holders in my trunk.

Thanks for the info...I honestly haven't looked into the install beyond seeing a thread where someone mentioned it being difficult.

Pardon me for sounding entitled, but would you mind explaining how you built the tool for the benefit of the forum? I'm sure many here would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: Found it...http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/diy-...-civic-interior-style-mods/93298-diy-rivnut-puller-install-trunk-cargo-net.html

Thanks for the heads up regardless.

Cargo net like others have said..there's actually another piece that can be installed in your trunk for grocery bags or other low hanging items that you don't want to turn over while they are in the trunk.

Those parts are the ones I described above for hanging grocery bags from

Thanks for the tip about the page number. I had looked for "trunk" info and missed this. I found it just now.

I know this is silly but my wife and I were looking at this trying to figure out how any net would work without two hooks on each side. All of the nets I've seen online look like they expect 4 total hooks, two on each side hi and lo. I'll keep looking around as I would like a net. Thanks.

I've had filled plastic grocery bags hanging off of mine with no problems.

This was one of the things that Honda giveth back for the 9th-Gens, though they "tooketh" the trunk pass-through and glovebox light (and now apparently the tint strip on the windshield) in the name of co$t-cutting! :thumbsdow (I wonder if an auto-trim shop can add that dye-tint back to the inside of a windshield, with the gradient at the very bottom, and make it look halfway decent, even up around the black area surrounding the LDW camera, all without dripping dye all over the interior? :dunno: My baby was in the body shop this week having a rocker-panel fixed after her dumb driver--that would be moi--scraped it on a "Stop" sign's concrete stanchion. :( The Dodge Avenger rental had the same thing--no tint strip (and maybe not even tinted windows, for that matter)--and I needed to grab the sunvisor in short order when the sun peeked below the edge of the windshield, unlike in all my Accords, where you can get the visor down without going immediately blind! I upgraded to Accords from a Civic for little touches like this--Honda, why do you continually taketh away??!! :grumpy:)

You are correct, it does take two on each side, a total of four. If you look at the directions the link in a previous post takes you to, you will see the included components in the factory net install has anchor A and anchor B.

I've done the install of the factory Honda net and as long as you get the rivenuts installed and tightened properly it's really not hard.
