Okay, I figured it was time to get my car's thread out of the introduction board so people will actually see my updates, haha. If a mod or admin wants to move this to a more appropriate board that's fine; I thought because it's a 6th gen it would get the most views in the 6th gen board.

Anyway, I'll start with photos of the process of my dad and I plasti-dipping the entire car, from OEM Flamenco Black Pearl with sun damage and chipping/a replacement hood that was green to graphite black pearl over gunmetal gray plasti-dip. It's not perfect but I think it looks a lot better than when I got it. The photos and text below are re-posted from my intro thread but I wanted to get them in here as well. I'll be posting updates on Selene in this thread from now on.

Taping off, base coat, grey and top coat with pearl:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So as you can see, dad and I (mostly dad) got Selene dipped over the weekend. The finish came out a bit textured, especially on the roof, and I believe that was a combination of the sprayer not being quite powerful enough and/or my dad's never painted with plasti-dip before, haha. He was spraying a little too far away where he had a hard time reaching on the roof and center/top of the hood. I don't care about that though, I think it looks awesome! I kept the bottom trim and front Honda logo original (I taped off the whole front emblem). The rear 'H' came right off, and I have to peel the dip off the Accord emblem because I didn't want to risk breaking it trying to take it off. I stuck it back on there a few weeks ago with metal/glass adhesive and it would have been a battle trying to get it off. I have to put the LX emblem on as well, but I'm probably gonna try badge glue on that, or E6000.

Prep:

We taped it off and wiped it down very, very thoroughly with denatured alcohol before painting. My dad's first job was taping off cars to be painted, actually, haha. Before that we did body work: filled a rust hole in the left rear wheel well facing the door and primed it, you can't tell there was ever a hole there now. Filled in gouges on the hood and bumper from a truck backing into it; couldn't get it all but it looks a hell of a lot better. Filled in some little rust holes on the hood as well. I sanded the clear coat that was chipping down/off where I could with a little motorized disc sander. Hand-sanded the sun damage under the passenger side windows, rust on the rear passenger door and a little round rust spot on the driver door. That came right off, it was only surface rust left from [apparently] a magnet that was left on the car.

Plasti-Dip:

We used two gallons of black, one gallon of gunmetal gray, and two gallons of top coat: one gallon of clear that had 25g of hyper black graphite pearl mixed in and the other by itself. We didn't use all of the paint. We put on three tack coats of black, two wet, two or three wet coats of gray, one tack coat of clear and then the rest of that gallon and about half a gallon of the other clear. The wet coats used about a quarter to a third of a gallon each so I think we got the ratio down. I would have liked to get more coats on but dad has a bad shoulder and he could only take so much painting.

Anyway, since the hood and roof came out textured, I might go back up to my parent's place this weekend and try giving it a gentle misting in naptha with the spray gun and see if that evens out the texture. We had xylene to clean the paint gun and mixing stuff, but I knew they stopped recommending xylene to thin dip with.

The hood was my fault. I tried taking a swing at painting and I royally effed it up, haha. But dad fixed it as best he could. You can barely tell by looking at it in person that there's a bit of striping near the top. The photo I took doesn't have great lighting and from the angle it's at you can totally see it. Maybe this weekend I'll go up and practice with the gun so I can do it myself next time, or we can take turns. I stayed in the garage and mixed up the paint and was on air hose patrol while he was walking around the car painting. Dad couldn't believe the color actually came out "looking like the pictures" I showed him back when I was still contemplating it. The color was almost exactly what I pictured in my mind. I wish it was more glossy but we could always add more later. I'd have to fix the texture first.

I took this photo right after putting some Dip Coat Protective Spray on her. I actually applied it with paper towels so we didn't do too terribly with the texture. It only grabbed the paper on the hood and roof a little. Otherwise it went on pretty smooth. If I had a microfiber towel I probably would have had less trouble.

I bow to you for being very careful with your money but I question when it is time to dump all of them and get something newer that hopefully has less or no problems. I do realize you are not made of money but there does come a time to rethink all of this. It seems to me that you are following in your father's footsteps rather than stepping out on your own.
I DO admire you whatever you do, you are one super lady. I'm just looking at the other possibilities, not knocking you at all.

Having said all that......I have a 2008 RAV4 V-6 bought new. It has, and still is, the biggest turd I've ever purchased. Problem after problem after problem and the recalls never end. Still a new one as of now. Sometimes no matter what you do it turns to caca.
Such is life.

Indeed.

On the bright side, I'm getting just shy of 32 MPG with Selene. Filled up this morning (took this waiting at the light right next to the station), the low fuel light hadn't come on yet even at 425 miles on the tank. Pretty okay for about 85/15 highway/city driving on my 73-ish mile commute every day.

CDs was on the money, the sway bar links are to source of the clunkies. They're the ones we put on last fall. They are probably still under warranty so dad is going to look into that. We sprayed some silicone spray on the bushings and a few other parts underneath. Found the frontmost motor mount is starting to get cracks in the rubber, so we will replace that some time. Power steering fluid is also right on the minimum line so I ordered a little bottle of Honda PS fluid. Last time I really looked at it, which was probably months ago, it was a little above the minimum line. Like maybe a millimeter higher than it is now? Not sure if there's a chance of a leak, but if there is, it's reeaaaaaaaally slow.

Right on! I know that the clunking sound on our cars is end links, and having had the clunking sound myself not too long ago, I was able to say that with utmost confidence :).

Lol, this is like one of two threads that constantly shows up in my notifications

The two main reasons I keep this thread updated are so that people with 6th gens have more resources for issues or concerns (if they figure out how to use the search feature), and as my own personal record of everything I've done with the car. And, maybe some people will read through Selene's "story" that I've written here, and enjoy it. Haha.

I enjoy reading it!

Mine does that too sometimes, I have to thump the dash and it will go up. Not sure it it's the cluster, sensor cable etc. I dont think its the thermostat. Another poster had this same issue with 6th gen accord.
Update on the thermostat; when once in a blue moon the gauge needle won't move at all, then suddenly start working and jump up to temperature.

The other day when I started her up and turned the headlights on (and subsequently the gauge cluster lights), the light behind the thermostat gauge didn't illuminate right away. It was dark out, so I noticed it right away. Took a good couple of seconds to light up. So something in the cluster must be not making a good contact, sometimes. Though the thermostat did come on normally that time.

Other random observations:
The clunk is still there, but the squeaking has not returned.
The hesitation from a full stop issue hasn't surfaced in a long time.
I backed her into a three-foot stack of pavers about a month ago, and now every time I look at the bumper, I hate myself :'( lol
We're gonna peel the AirWrap, sand down the damage to the bumper and respray it, when dad and I have some free time to get that all set up. Winter is coming so I don't know if we'll get to it before spring...I want to see how the AirWrap holds up to ice and snow.

I find it entertaining as well, even though I don't have a 6th gen.

Got a bit of a setup going now, for a tablet running the Torque app in this space. I bought one of those gooseneck holders, installed it under the seat and ran it up over the cubby hole. The cat knocked my tablet off of a table and it cracked the glass over the screen, but the screen wasn't damaged so it's still useable. Maybe when I have some spare cash I'll get a new little tablet to replace it. This one was a gift so I'm not out any money, lol.

My Bluetooth OBDII scanner should be here today, so maybe I'll be able to test out the Torque app this weekend!

Added the power steering fluid as well.

Boy do l feel dumb...hooked the scanner up, went on the tablet to scan for a Bluetooth device...And my tablet doesn't even have Bluetooth. I just assumed it did. Haha. Looks like I'll be picking up a used tablet sometime in the future!

Until then, my phone can display it.

Took this screenshot upon arriving to work. I like the little tick marks on the dials that show the min/max they went to during the trip.

I like this feature as well. I'd like to try it somewhere where I can actually go for it instead of just the on ramp to the highway and later on the off ramp, haha.

I was getting ready to say! 16.5 sec 0-60 is not really "going for it" unless you are on a Schwinn LOL My local Goodwill gets tablets all the time, they usually sell for less than 50 bucks! Of course they probably don't have Bluetooth either...
Got the Pro version of Torque this afternoon. Many more options. I like it.

It's my birthday today, so I went out and bought some car stuff (including a new drying shammy that works amazingly), then I washed Selene.

Happy Birthday! Did you get anything good as a gift? I'm a huge fan of money, and solitude as gifts on my birthday, usually in that order, LOL
My father got me some shop labor and Harlock having a new valve body installed in him for my birthday, but you already saw that lol.

It finally happened...Selene got hit. Not counting when I backed her into those pavers of course, that was my fault.

The outer tail light is cracked and the dip on the bumper took the hit. I ordered a used outer tail light for $33 on eBay and it's on its way. I also needed to dip the bumper again anyway.

It was my boyfriend's sister's boyfriend who hit it; I was at their house last night and as he was backing his Civic up to go to work, he didn't realize my car was there (in the dark and it was black, and he's not used to having a car parked where it was in the large driveway) and he bumped into it. He came back inside and explained, I told him it would be okay. He's going to give me money for the tail light and I already have a gallon of AirWrap at dad's. The bumper looks way worse than it actually is.
