Hey guys,

So I just got my new sport CVT, and I had some questions about shifting from drive to sport mode, etc.

First, is it okay to shift between drive and sport while driving? Can I be in drive then whip it in sport and put it back to drive? Does that cause any excessive wear on the car or transmission?

Also, if I am driving in sport mode and shifting with the paddles, is it ok to shift back into drive mode and take it out of manual mode, or should I stop first?

Thanks for your time!

Chris

You can move the shift lever from Drive to Sport while the car is moving without a problem. There is nothing in the owner's manual that prohibits that. You can also use the paddle shifters in either D or S. When in D the paddle shifter will automatically put you into the Sport mode and display the gear you have selected in the speedometer. If you don't shift up or down in D with the paddles, then the transmission automatically goes back into the Drive mode. You can use the paddle shifters without lifting your foot off the accelerator.

Unless you really need a burst of power or straightening out some esses for fun, going to sport just burns more fuel especially on the freeway where cruising is an easy 1,000 RPM higher and you really gain nothing. If you need more responsiveness, just flick the wrist to sport and then back to drive when that powere is not needed. For me 99% of the time I am in D and not S, which may explain why I get 42-44 MG in the freeway.

OP: Yes, it is ok to all your questions, I have a CVT myself. I use S Mode w/ Paddle Shifting frequently. Enjoy your new car!

And the gear will stay active in Drive mode if you are not using your gas pedal. ie Engine braking coming down a long hill.
