You can move the shift lever from Drive to Sport while the car is moving without a problem. There is nothing in the owner's manual that prohibits that. You can also use the paddle shifters in either D or S. When in D the paddle shifter will automatically put you into the Sport mode and display the gear you have selected in the speedometer. If you don't shift up or down in D with the paddles, then the transmission automatically goes back into the Drive mode. You can use the paddle shifters without lifting your foot off the accelerator.

And the gear will stay active in Drive mode if you are not using your gas pedal. ie Engine braking coming down a long hill.
