Hey folks. My photoshop skills are more than worst. They are terrible . Anyway I'm considering removing the moulding from the doors and wanted to see what it would look like. Here is a side by side comparison

What do you think, should I remove them or keep it the same and are they held on by 3M type tape only or are there holes for anchors in the doors.

I dont mind it but I have yet to put mine on for my 2008. On yours it looks a bit sportier with it.

I think there's a lot of work involved. They aren't just simply stuck on there with tape... there's a bunch of holes in the doors that have to be plugged up, then the door has to be repainted.

I'm pretty sure that they are stuck on there with tape.

im pretty sure they're not
+1. there's holes. and if you live in a place where there's a lot of close parking and wreckless drivers, it's worth leaving on saving you from door dings. One time a fence closed but luckily only scraped the molding saving me from a dent.

Mine were on with tape only, no holes, no screws, no nothing. How do I know this? Because I stupidly blew one off with a 3500psi pressure washer. They are taped. New one? Clean the door with alcohol, peel the tape covering off of the new one, stick it on the door.

I think you should leave them on, it looks better and has some ding protection.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Keep them coming. I'm not too worried about dent protection based on where and how i park regularly however looks is what I'm most concerned about. Here is another terrible photoshop job from a different angle.

I'm glad you did the photoshop, I've always wondered what the sedan would look like without.... Personally, I think it's cleaner without, a little like the 3rd gen TL.
I like, now I'm curious about the tape and since we all have used 7th gens, the paint after it is removed! Keep us posted...

i like it better without. however i would want to be sure there just on there with tape before you try to peel them off. and be ready to do some serious washing/claying/polishing because i can almost guarantee that the outline will still be there if/when you were to take them off.

Unfortunately, you're wrong. They have holes and clips holding them on.

OP would have to fill the holes and then repaint. I saw a picture of a sedan without the moulding and there were holes. Let me see if I can find the pic....

I only know this because I explored this option when I first got my car 4 years ago.

Haha, I know for a fact that they are not just taped on. I recently had the driver side of my car repainted. When I went to check on the progress rite after they painted it, I saw It with out the molding and yup Its not just tape :thumbsdow.

RTexasF, What year and model do you have? Are you the first original owner?

The Sedan came stock with the door molding, permanently secured to the vehicle with drilled holes and clips. The coupe did not come with door molding, but had optional stick-on accessory molding if you wanted them. However, they look totally lame on a coupe, which is why they don't come standard on a coupe.

And now we know. :)

I had this decision going on as well. I have a 4dr sedan with the bumpers. If you look at many other cars a lot actually don't have it, but I realized that it gives it an extra little curve and looks good actually. I recommend leaving them be: no work to just leave them, plus it makes it look better personally.

I just verified it by removing the door panel and there are definitely holes in the door for the moulding. Too bad though. It would have been a bold mod to try.
