In instrument panel.. The light came on as I was 5 minutes into driving and stayed on. Checked the manial and it says, "If an indicator remains on, there may be a problem; see your dealer.'
I've searched and the ones who took it to the dealer, had their relay box replaced? Please let me know if you have any insight on this.

Thank you

Any idea which relay box it is? Mine came on for a few minutes the other day, but it turned off and hasn't turned on since then.

Mine has come on a few times then it turns off. Haven't taken it to the dealership because I haven't noticed any issues.

What insight are you looking for? Are you going to repair the car yourself, or take it to the dealer for warranty repair?
I'm an computer engineer. I just like tinkering.

The light hasn't come back since and I didn't notice any problems with the smart entry system so far. I wasn't planning on repairing the error myself, but if I knew exactly why the light came on in the first place, I can make a better determination of how important it is to have the system repaired. A smart key system error is a problem that can potentially leave me stranded on the side of the road and I just need to rule out that possibility. With that said, I did find the relay box people were mentioning about on other forums, but there is no definitive proof that swapping the relay box will fix the problem forever or at all.

I would get it replaced. My 2000 Accord had an intermittent problem with the main relay. The car would not start occasionaily when the weather was hot. After allowing the entirior to cool off for ten or more it would start. The relay has a printed circuit board and when it got hot the board would expand and break the connection on the printed circuit. I would imagine that the smart entry system relay also has a printed circuit board because it controls several functions and it may have a hairline crack that expands in the heat and turns on the warning light. Btw I did not have to have the problem occur for my Honda dealer to diagnose the issue.

Hmm. The light just came on again for a minute. It seems to only come on as I'm driving. The second I stopped, the light went out.

2013 Honda Accord smart key indicator light

I am having the same problem with a '13 6mt. The smart key indicator light in the cluster will often come on while the engine is running and then go out at random times. It happens whether driving or parked. I cannot determine if the intermittent problem is within the key itself, the relay box, or some other electrical component. I took the car to the dealer yesterday but they said they could not find a problem and that Honda is not aware of this problem. They said the technician was aware of what the online forums say and was willing to order a relay box, but the service advisor declined that option stating they need proof or else they risk not getting reimbursed by Honda for the warranty work. They said they would not replace the parts, including the relay box, without definitive evidence that it was the problem and everything they saw looked good. Apparently the wires were all connected and made good contact. I do not know if the car will not restart at times when the light is on or if it is just an indicator light problem and nothing more. I am waiting to find a solution.

Incidentally, the service advisor "pleaded the 5th" regarding Honda quality lately. He stated there was a time when Honda did its own thing regardless of other manufacturers and they were known for quality, but now the market has become highly competitive and Honda is trying to offer as many bells and whistles as quickly as possible at the expense of reliability. He cited the radio problem as an example. Customers were complaining that their radios would freeze, but Honda did not acknowledge the problem and dealers would send people away without a repair. Later, Honda released a "firmware update" out of the blue to fix problems with the radio.

I observe the same problem. The smart Entry system indicator comes up for a few minutes while I am driving. I could not determine what causes that. The behavior seems random.

Has anybody brought his/her car to a dealer? Was the problem resolved?

UPD: Crosstour owners reported the same problem: http://www.crosstourownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1938&page=2
The problem was fixed by replacing the relay box.

service advisors opinions are usually trash... heh...

anyway, there is a known problem with the smart key access system which has a software problem that cannot be updated digitally, so it has to be replaced with an updated version. without diagnosing it it's hard to say if this is it or if something else is required.

also - why in the world would you pay to fix it yourself when you have a full bumper to bumper warranty?

hmmm.... i thought i was just going crazy.... ive been having the same problem. i usually keep my key in my gym bag and put it on the passenger side but at times i keep it in my pocket or even put it next to the push to start button and the light still stays on. i shall take it to the dealer to see what they tell me.

You have to understand that they work on commission. I have been lucky enough to have two knowledgeable and professional service advisors at David McDavid Honda of Frisco. The first one is now the service manager. Both of theses gentlemen have always been respectful, knowledgeable and non pushy. Both of these guys have a Honda maintenance background.

Smart entry

I have 2013 navi coupe for 1 mos and similar issue with smart entry warning light intermitently coming on. Took to Honda dealer and told about forum and relay box posts. He told me that just today Honda is admitting issue and will replace relay box, hopefully this will solve problem for future 2013 accord owners

I went to a dealership (Honda of Lisle) yesterday. Their response was (I preserved the original spelling):

"POWER CONTROL UNIT 1G1B CICUIT ERROR.
CLEARED CODE, INTERMITTENT FAILURE. SYSTEM OK AT THIS TIME."

That did not fix the problem, however. The smart entry indicator comes on from time to time when I am driving. Should I call Honda?

If the problem continues, then take it back to the dealer again. I realize it's a pain it he rear end, but give them a couple of more opportunities to troubleshoot the problem and tell them to check the computer codes. After that, I would call Honda customer service. If you don't give them a couple of opportunities to fix the problem then Honda customer service will just tell you to take it your dealer.

Went to the dealer second time after calling Honda. The dealer replaced a relay box (part number 38330-T2A-A01). I will report if the problem is not resolved.
