A friend of mine had her bug wrecked by a driver who was asleep at the wheel

The car was a total and when she was shopping for a new VW I went down the street to the Honda dealer cuz I knew she was going to get ripped off by the VW dealer. Told them at Honda that I was trying to save her soul... She now is the owner of a 2010 4D Civic. Pics to follow but here is the squashed bug. Oh yeah she was ok!

The sleepy driver performed a wonderful, public service by removing road clutter. You caught me in a philanthropic mood today. Can you get the driver's name and address...so I know whom to reward for doing a good deed? :lmao:

Hey Robert - even for you this is a little over the top. You may want to reconsider the direction of this response...

You are correct. :notworthy

And Thank You for allowing me the opportunity to "respin" what I actually meant, by replacing a sarcastic "connotation" with a precise "denotation."

While I will NEVER lament/regret the loss of a VolksWagen (or any other German car), I am very Thankful the guy's girlfriend wasn't injured. And I'm also very glad the guy (wisely) persuaded his girlfriend into a new Honda. Does this sound better? :dunno:

Yup - thanks - I knew your intent, but the delivery was a bit rough...

glad to see that your "GF" is doing well and behind the wheel again. did she play the "i got whiplash and back pain" part like so many people try to do, or did she do the honest thing?

i do like the RPM gauges of the new civic. looks very clean!

Much but it is my room mate not GF...LOL
uh-huh. that what you want us to believe. no worries, we know she's not ;) :naughty:

Road clutter? You've got to be kidding me buddy. Volkswagen's are consistently some of the safest vehicles in their class.

Too bad Honda still doesn't offer rear side airbags eh?

^ I can't speak for wardenr, but based on his previous comments regarding German-made cars, I'd have to say that the road clutter comment doesn't have anything to do with VW's safety rating but rather it's poor reliability record.

Wardenr has stated that he believes "every and all" vehicle that comes from either an American or European manufacture are all "unequivocal junk/trash/clutter" based on the simple fact that they "aren't Japanese". Of course, when asked for specifics to justify his fringe opinion, he will just run away and never respond. It's just straight up nonsensical delusions and I'm perplexed that nobody here but me calls him out for such feverish crazy talk. This latest trash, insinuating that it's a great thing that the Volkswagen is off the road after an accident is insulting and tasteless, if completely detached from the reality that a VW isn't exactly a poor car of choice when in any sort of accident.

I've seen several situations over my years on this forum where those who are strongly supportive of a particular make will go to the ends of the earth to defend it, almost to the point of being so overzealous that things get very touchy - and that's what seems to be happening here. My only suggestion is that we just understand everyone's point of view, and let the water roll off of your back and move on. We're not going to change anyone here - so arguement for the sake of it - and baiting to get people sucked back into the arguement - is what's going to get people banned off of the forum. So I see what's going on - and the red flag is that everyone take a deep breath and back away from the discussion.

Now with my non-moderator hat on, I'll admit I have a zealous behavior when it comes to PC's and servers - I don't understand for the life of me how anyone could consider anything other than an HP. I can sit and give you an hour's worth of lecture on design, reliability, support, integration, etc, etc that would make your head spin. And if I chose to, I could trash the competitors with the zeal that we see here on the forum. But I usually tend to take the high ground, and that's just my nature. I'll acknowledge that other brands exist and have value, and certainly respect your right to embrace another brand and go out and buy it and sing it's praises. Yea, deep inside I'll think you're an idiot - but I won't tell that to your face.

I think that's the approach we need to take here - at least to the extent that we don't start namecalling in either direction. Can we agree to that?

cheers - andy

personally, i like the "built by me" or the "yea, i built that one" brands myself. those are the best computers IMO. because we all know that regardless of who's name is or isn't on the front, we all know (those of us who are in the know at least), that the inside is still going to have a xeon processor, 32GB of ECC RAM (or some other amount), and several 10k or 15k RPM drives, all connected to a cisco or juniper router/switch to serve the entire facility/company.

but, i can see that getting a pre-built machine, regardless of who's name is on it, will save time building these units. just unpack and slide into the rackmount .

I definitely understand the "roll your own" mentaility - sometime it's the best way to get what you need without taking someone else's config decision as the defacto-standard. Of course, you COULD get into the same discussion about the components you use to "roll your own". :D But that'd sidetrack this thread waaaay too much!
