I'm in the same boat! I HATE the crappy sound system on the Sport model. I LOVE my previous VW GTI with Dynaudio sound system (without subwoofer) and it was AMAZING!

I already have 1 week with the Accord and I CAN'T stand the sound system so i went to a place here in Miami (SoundsGoodStereo) and they recommend to start changing just the OEM speakers to Focal Integration speakers. He said those speakers usually sounds good with OEM head units. To be honest i highly doubt it cause the OEM amp Honda use in the LX and Sport models are just terrible so probably I'm gonna end adding an amplifier (under the passenger seat cause i don't wanna see cables hanging around in the trunk) and wait for the results.

They quote me:
Front Speakers $199 Focal Integration ISC 165
Rear Speakers $199 Focal Integration ISC 165
4 channel amp $329 (didn't remember the brand)
JL Audio Clean Sweep OEM interface $249
Wiring Kit $50
Labor $255

Total: $1,281  wish me luck!

Stereo upgrades are just expensive. Everyone on the internet always says stereo shops rip you off but those prices you posted are very typical. If the installer makes a living at it and the shop has to make a profit, then yeah, the labor is gonna be something like $75 an hour.

The shop might charge a little more for the gear than the internet, but it's not that much more of a markup compared to what a lot of brick-and-mortar retailers already charge versus the internet.
