Several months ago my 1998 LX 4 cyl. started stalling briefly while driving and then kicking back on. The problem was diagnosed as an ignition switch problem. My dealer replaced the ignition switch (which had been done previously under the recall). They did it for free, which was really great of them. However, when I picked the car up, the SRS light was on. I don't mean it came on as I was driving it home. I mean it was on when I started the car up to leave the dealership. I asked them about it at the time and they asked me if I wanted to schedule an appointment to have it looked at. I didn't schedule an appointment at the time because I thought maybe it was just something related to the work they did and maybe the light would go out.
Now it is several months later and the light is still on. I have also noticed that the horn doesn't always work. I scheduled an appointment to have a small coolant leak looked at and I also asked them to check the SRS light. They called me back and told me that the problem is that the cable reel is broken and that replacing it will be $361.
My question is can the cable reel be damaged or broken during replacement of the ignition switch? It seems possible, but I really don't know. Even if it is possible, I would feel kind of bad accusing them of breaking the cable reel and asking them to repair it at their cost when they did the ignition switch repair for free when they didn't really need to.
