Hello Everyone. I'm new to this group. I just purchased my first Honda Accord (2019) recently and unfortunately, my mitigation radar just got stolen this week. It was then that I found out these radars/sensors are pretty popular in the car theft world. I'd like to get it replaced, but I'm really afraid that it'd only get stolen again. Upon looking in the grill, it looks like it's very easy to steal this radar. Has anyone found a way to install this radar in a secure way that's better than how Honda did it? If I can find a way to put it in better, in a way that it can't be stolen, I'd like to try to get another one. Thank you

I'm assuming they cut your sensor off its brackets, not go through the trouble of removing the bumper. And if that's the case, not much you can do. Its like wheels or cat converters thieves. If they are hell bent on stealing em, they will get em and f up your car in the process if necessary. Don't forget this isn't a hood ornament, it serves a purpose and needs to be in a certain position free from obstruction. So even if you beat Honda's design, your sensor may end up not working/calibrating correctly. So get a really good car alarm professionally installed or wait for them to come back...and beat the crap out of them.

Absolutely. I'd just make sure to have full insurance coverage in case it happens again. Other than that, maybe consider moving from the current location to a safer area when that becomes feasible?

I also haven't read about this happening often here on DA or elsewhere. But if it's a fairly common issue, I'd think Honda would redesign their placement and/or make sure it's attached to one's car more securely.

I agree with Honda2014 above- if you have full coverage, maybe investigate lowering your comprehensive deductible. Lowering it is usually pretty cheap... at least in my neck of the woods. I lowered mine from $250 to $100 and I think it only added like $6 to my six month premium.

Quite a few people have added wire or plastic mesh to that area of the front bumper- not to deter people from stealing the radar sensor- but rather as a cheap way to prevent damage to some of the bits behind the bumper. People did this on the 9th Generation Accord too- as some of those bits can be damaged pretty easily if hit by stones or rocks that are kicked up by other cars. I haven't seen anyone talk about it recently with a 10th Generation Accord- but I remember when it first came out people were experimenting with different types of screens and mesh to protect the expensive components behind the lower grille- and someone found a material that worked without obscuring the radar sensor. Installing a screen of some sort might convince a thief to go after an easier target.

Good luck.

There was a shortage of these parts, presumably the shortage is still ongoing. My car was parked at the body shop for 2.5 months while waiting for this part. Sucks that this situation has gotten so bad that there is a black market now. For me I've said before I think this radar design is stupid and defective. Below is a reference for this ongoing problem.

Howdy. yes, its a big problem in my country. WHen I bought the Accord back in November 2021, there weren't many solutions yet. We were told that radar theft was rampant but I was adamant of staying with a honda (since my first car was a 2002 accord). Used car Dealerships were even taking the radars off and only installing them once someone was going to purchase the car.

There is a guy that put in protections for the side mirrors (yes, they steal the mirrors and innards here) said they had only found a solution for the CRV and had found a way to make it more difficult for the Civic (but could still be stolen with enough determination...technically steal the whole bumper if they wanted the radar)). But that the solutions he had tried out for the accord hadn't worked. He told me to write back to him periodically to see if he had found a solution. I messaged him back in January and still nothing. Well, come this past week, 6 months after owning my car, my radar was stolen :/ . Well, I contacted him and he said that yes, he found a solution to help protect the radar.

He sent me a pic of what the finished product looks like. I haven't done it because I'm honestly just gonna roll around without the radar for a month or 2. He is charging around $100 bucks to install it. Its a homebrew solution but it's something.

Here is the pic. Maybe someone in your area can figure out what he's doing. Once I do decide to get a new radar and then protect it, i can post again and hopefully give more info into what he's doing exactly to help prevent the theft. For now, all I got is that picture. Looks like some metal going around the radar...attached to what? I don't know. How is it protecting it? DOn't know that either. But the guy seemed trustworthy when I spoke to him while he was doing my mirror protections. He said he had done a few things for the radar but it hadn't helped at all and it would still be stolen...so he wasn't charging anyone or doing that job until he found a real solution.

So yeah, there's definitely a way.

BTW, question, I obviously got all those errors like No Lane keep assist, Road mitigation, etc...but I also got an error which scares me a bit. Electronic Power Steering error. Did yours also get that Electronic Power Steering error because of the stolen radar?

Judging by the responses to theft posts, it seems like the most realistic and sustainable options are to purchase the appropriate level of insurance coverage and possibly install a dashcam that records while parked to aid investigators (although someone can just steal that, too)

I have the same dilemma. My sensor was stolen couple months ago. This item is on National back order. I was able to purchase one on eBay. I haven’t gotten it installed because I don’t want it to get stolen again. Were you able to find out how that guy protected it?

When you replace with another find a permanent way fix it down. That's what we do here in Nigeria. Work some extra plate, rivet it down, find the best type of anchor to secure it down.... just make the job tedious for the next pilferer. Once the estimated time to steal has been exceeded, they leave disappointed.

Hello, I am in NYC. My sensor was stolen 2 weeks ago. I ordered a new one from the dealer. It will be here in another week. I found a guy in the Bronx, that manufactures a steel bracket for the sensor which you screw on with wheel knots. You can't unscrew it without taking the bumper out first and then have the right wrench. It comes down to make the job longer than the thief wants to be around. This person charges $100 for the part, or $150 for the part and labor.
