So I'm coming up for an oil change in probably about a week or so here.

With the ambient temperature being about 15 degrees this morning, I thought to myself "self, lets get entertained by 0W-20 motor oils".

Fired up the i5 and started reading. I have used Mobil 1 0W-20 and thought that was a great oil, thought I'd try something else too. Was looking through all of the different options and started reading up about Toyota 0W-20 -- a LOT of great information about it on BITOG.

Went to eBay and found 9 qts of it shipped to my door $50 said and done.

From what I read this is a decent price. I'll let you all know how it goes with it, probably easier starts for sure.

At my dealer here in Arizona, its $50 + tax for the oil change using "Honda" 0w-20 oil with my 15 % for military discount it comes down to about $48 tax incl.

Satin, 10k that's impressive. Any idea of the maker of the Toyota filter? Do they swap it out halfway through or is it in the whole OC.

Basque, are they using the 0W-20 blend or full syn?

Full synthetic, only have 800 miles on it but I talked to the service tech manager and he assures me it's full synthetic. Every 8k or when maint minder gets to 15%.

Not bad. Figuring $6.68 (looked up 0W-20 Full Syn from HandA) per quart. Estimate 4.5 - 5 qts and pricing a filter at $6-7 they're making around $10 for labor. Not too shabby.

Not sure who makes the oil filter. But it's a cartridge type filter now where as the previous generation had a normal oil filter. The filter stays in the entire time. I check the oil level every few weeks and so far so good. Car has 21k miles on it.

Toyota oils, all viscosities, are made to very strict standards. You chose well.
Thanks! My family and friends think I'm nuts but I really enjoy researching about oil, filters, fluids... all of this stuff. When researching the Toyota 0W-20, I saw a post from you on a RAV4 forum. Plus the consistent discussion of not only Toyota 0W-20 but other 0W-20's on BITOG makes for a good read.

Saw on eBay another 9 qt lot of the Toyota oil, this time for $60. Might pick it up as well. That'd give me 18 qts for $110 or about $6.11 a qt. Should be able to get 4 OC's out of all of the oil.

So I was talking with the seller I bought the oil off of on eBay and he let me know that he has 27 more quarts of the Toyota 0W-20. He offered them to me buying all of them for $130 shipped to my door. That's about $4.80 a quart.

Doing some simple math I've calculated it out to be about 2.5 to 3 years worth of oil. Looked on BITOG and other sources on the net and people claim that oil companies give oil a shelf life of 2 years but others say you can safely keep oil for about five years. You guys think it would be okay for that long?

Oil is good as long as the bottle isn't opened. I used to have a few cases of oil in my basement, but I have 3 cars to maintain so the stock gets rotated every 2-3 years. If I open a bottle, I try to finish it up within 1/2 a year.

So yesterday I received all of the oil. 27 new unopened quarts, just BEAUTIFUL. My GF thinks I'm nuts looking over a table of oil!

Now just to drive about 500 more miles and we can change this!

Lot of miles on that '13 huh? Holding up well so far?

Damn you got like 48k worth of oil there at least! That is awesome oil from what I read I emailed all my local dealers asking prices per case and not one got back to me! Big surprise

If your feeling adventurous there's a guy selling a 30 rack of ao1 filters on eBay right now for I think 120 bucks

From what I have read on BobIsTheOilGuy, different Toyota forums, and general web searches; it appears to be very good -- should definitely not need to purchase oil for a while.

...but I couldn't pass up the auction for 6 new quarts of Mobil 1 0W-20 AFE on eBay for $27 shipped to my house. :lmao:

I'm going to search on eBay but please link the filters if you can. :)

So I e-mailed the seller on that auction because the photo on the page had the A02 but the description had the A01. He emailed me back saying "the auction is for the A02 but if you buy it I can send you the A01".

Sketchy.... I said if you re-list it with the correct part numbers and photos I'll re-consider it. Wouldn't want to get hung on this one.
