I have a 2007 Honda accord on 20" rims. The rims are 20x8.5 with a 40mm offset. I currently have them on 225/30/r20 which gives a really harsh ride. Will 235/45/r20 fit these wheels on the car without rubbing?

I am at a loss for words ...

Side note - what made you get 20's in the first place ?

Post pics, are you running stock suspension? If so, the ride will probably always be rough regardless of the tire size you run

Hopefully, all the other Drive Accord members running 235/45/r20 will chime in.....

24" would look even better, but you might need a small ladder.

definitely not 225/45! Go with 235/35/20

^^^^^ 235/35/20
and go with 32-35 PSI in the tires

Is 25.31 inches tall, and your hub sits 12.66 inches off the ground

235/45/r20
It is 28.33 inches tall, and the hub will sit 14.16 inches off the ground
This tire is 3.02 inches taller overall from ground to top of tread.

For reference are my tires: 245/45/r17
25.68 inches tall, and my hubcap sits 12.84 inches above the road.

So I am currently running a slightly taller setup than you, and my car has a lowered ride height (not much), but I CAN rub if I compress to maximum. However, under daily driving conditions or speed bumps I never have an issue.
Based on this, I recommend staying with a narrower tire and trying a small step up in aspect ratio/ sidewall height. The numbers are hard to read or compare without searching for a converter or chart.

Tire size comparison (nice because you can search any parameter)
