be prepared to shell out some cash for repairs - the 6th gen and beyond are not like the hondas of older makes. By cash I dont mean like 280$, like 400 for ball joints in 40k, 800$ timimg belts, 350$ "major service" which = oil, tire rotate and a couiple of taps on the suspension to let you know it needs 1400$ in bushings and a strut. Good luck is all I can say, and I was a die hard, I just can't deal with it anymore.

You can't deal with it?

lol Try dealing with cars which need the same repairs for double if not triple the prices.

Um what year and how many miles? Also what was the problem you were having with the car and what did that $1400 bill cover?

Sounds to me you let your repairs build up, or your mechanic needs replacing.

Either way, your problems are not with Honda because all makes are expensive to repair when your talking semi-major and major repairs. So your statement falls on deaf ears. Sorry.

6th gen 125k. Check $ for a strut and control arm bushings. Dont worry, you may resist now, but you will remember me when you get it in an uncomfortable spot from the dealer! Its all normal wear and tear - not abused, highway miles - just prepare yourself! Little by little it will add up. My freaking Caravan had less problems!

Then go drive a Caravan again.

You're doing it wrong then.

a. Go to another mechanic. Dealers have always charged more than an independent mechanic.

b. Learn to do some of the work yourself. An oil change and tire rotation are easy to do. If you don't know how, then learn. It's very easy.

c. $800 for timing belt job is considered cheap compared to, say, Audi which can cost well over $1500.

d. As cars (i.e. technology) advance and get more sophisticated (more electronic doodads) then they'll naturally be more expensive to repair.

Not too surprising that you would need a strut + bushings at 125K miles on any car, but $1400 is nuts. You could have gone to a non-dealer shop and put a pair of aftermarket struts on for much less. My 02's full timing belt service was done at a dealer for ~$300 less than you paid.

Labor rates where you live sound pretty high, so you'd get gouged no matter which badge was on your trunk.

Well if you drive a car for 125k miles and don't do anything more than change the oil and rotate the tires, you'll eventually be looking at a stacked repair bill like that.

Its called "Preventative Maintenance." Two words a GOOD mechanic lives by, unlike the posers who live by "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

All of the special honda tranny fluid in the world is not going to save a gen 6 trans, so get ready, just sayin'. As for the other amounts, I really dont have that big a beef with, just the needing a third tranny that has me bent - especially since honda knows they are effed. I changed fluid by draining, filling, driving to work to achieve tc lock out, and the repeating 3x to ensure a higher consistancy of new fluid - every 25k - and HOA said, so what, its out of the 109k warranty and its 3500$ go pound sand...

gee litemike another thread of you complaining about your accord, got anything good to say, i junked my caravan for an odyssey but what do i know i may be a honda fanboy. every car requires repair if you don't want to deal with it get a zipcar

K24s do not have timing belts

my 2003 made it to 100K miles needing nothing but fluids, filters and brake pads

I have a friend who had a 2000 Honda Accord with over 150k miles and never one problem with the trans. She actually never had any real major problem with the car itself.

based on your complaints it sounds like youve never owned a Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes

I have a 02 EX with 192K miles and there's nothing wrong with my tranny rides smooth. Just sounds like you got a bad car it happens you can buy a brand new car with no miles on it and have all the problems in the world while your buddy buys the same car at the same place and same time and never have a thing go wrong. That's what happens especially with trannys there so particular even just a little dirt can mess them up.

All cars require repairs eventually and Honda is on the less expensive side. Try public transportation next time.

you see the part i bolded out? that part you said about the dealer. that's 100% of the problem as to your expensive repairs. you can go to firestone, which is still expensive btw, but they won't charge you an arm, leg, AND your first born like the sealership will. firestone will only charge you an arm and a leg

but yea, many of the things you list off here can be done by yourself for much cheaper as some have said.

the thing about you coming up on your 3rd tranny though....where did you get your transmission serviced and replaced/rebuilt at? if it wasn't through the dealer, then go through that place instead.
