Hello all, I just had winter tires put on my EX coupe today. I did not have TPMS sensors installed with the tires. I'm using 225/60/16R on steel rims, not the stock size.

I was under the impression that since I don't have the sensors, my check tire pressure light would be coming on and I was prepared to deal with it (ignore it). However, my check tire pressure light has not come on since these new tires were installed and I've been driving around town all day. This may be a dumb question but should I be talking to a dealer about the TPMS system possibly not working or is this a normal thing? Does anyone know what's going on here?

We dont have TPMS sensors. What we have is a computer that tracks the number of revolutions each tire makes and reports if there is a mismatch.

2013's don't use sensors. The tpms will most likely come on after awhile. Recalibrate your tpms following the instructions in the owners manual.

Use the search button. It has TPMS, but does not use actual pressure sensors in each wheel. Instead, it uses the ABS sensors to detect a wheel rotating at a different speed. A tire with low pressure will rotate more slowly.

Learn something new every day! That's an awesome change in design. I was getting ready to change over soon too, and was trying to find an easy way to ignore the light.

Can you guys please go into detail about the accord not having a tpms???
Page 469 of the Owner's Manual:

"Instead of directly measuring the pressure in each tire, the TPMS on this vehicle monitors and compares the rolling radius and rotational characteristics of each wheel and tire while you are driving to determine if one or more tires are significantly under-inflated. This will cause the low tire pressure/TPMS indicator to come on and a message to appear on the multi-information display.

You must start TPMS calibration every time you:

• Adjust the pressure in one or more tires.
• Rotate the tires.
• Replace one or more tires."

>>> the rest of the directions are on pages 469- 470 of the manual...

Download it here...the .pdf version is a lot better than the paper version. It has all sorts of embedded hyperlinks, search features, etc:

Actually, it will rotate faster. Since a tire with lower pressure has a smaller effective circumference, it will need to rotate faster to cover the same distance as the tires with more pressure.

The TPMS system is the reason I joined this group. I knew about the sensor less TPMS, but I wanted more info on how swapping wheels affected the TPMS. So I Googled "2013 Accord TPMS", and I found numerous threads here covering the system.

Why did you go with 225/60/16 instead of the 205/65/16? Typically winter tires are narrower than summer tires, not wider. EX has 215's standard so the minus size would be the 205.

I ordered 215/65/16R from my tire place and they assured me they'd be ready to go, but I went to get them put on yesterday and they tell me that they sold my tires to someone else. WTF??? :(

Since I didn't want to wait another week for the tires they found the 225/60/16 in store and put those on at no extra charge. So yes I'm bummed out about having a bigger tire than what I wanted.

Thank you all. I looked at the manual but I couldn't find the section describing how the system works.
See my post # 8 above...it's on page 469-470 in the manual.
