NOVI, Mich. — Ask any car company executive how they plan to turn a profit in the future and they'll rattle off plans to sell efficient and well-equipped small and midsize cars for premium prices.

John Mendel, Honda's (HMC) top U.S. auto executive, is well aware that the plans sound as if they were photocopied from the Japanese automaker's playbook.

The increasing competition faced by Honda's bread-and-butter models, the midsize Accord, compact Civic and CRV small crossover vehicle, is what keeps Mendel awake at night.

Correction Accord is not considered midsized any more the sedan is a large car. And yeah American companies tried there best to compete with Toyota and Honda, Ford released fusion to wipe out Japanese cars didnt work out, the the new Ford Taurus, and the list goes on...

To All:

OLD news. Far too long, HMC has pursued glitz, glamour, and provocative styling. Honda has admitted their mistake, citing a need to get away from "Hollywood" silliness...and get back to the basics. Form, LAST. FUNCTION, FIRST.

You are quite MISTAKEN. The Gen Six Accord is classified as a "mid-size" sedan. Conversely, my Gen Three Accord is classified as a "compact" sedan. Ergo, said model has grown HEAVIER...and LARGER...over time.

Ward's Auto? Kelley Blue Book? NADA? WHICH resource shall I quote for YOU? :dunno:

To All:

Honda = "The Engineer's Car." Specific, involved equation factors: High precision, high quality, high reliability, high-performance, along with high fuel economy. But low emissions.

Think of it as a "Mean Greenie's" "Hot Rod." :D

" The Honda Accord offers something for a diverse range of people
seeking anything from a comfortable family car to an aggressive
coupe with looks and power. The feature changes to the 2010 Honda
Accord elevates its appeal and supports a legendary reputation
as a class leader for quality and customer satisfaction"

Above quote by: Erik Berkman-Vice President,American Honda Motor Co.

I will not trade non of my Hondas for any of the Detriot's family nor a Toyo, Datsun (except the r34 :) ). The detroit's family are expendables and the others does not appeal my senses...

"Honda is scheduled to update the Accord next year and redesign the car by 2013. But Mendel says the redesign could take place before then as Honda introduces new technologies to raise fuel economy."

So does this mean there could be a new MY 2012 Accord for sale at the end of 2011!?!

And about the Accord's fuel economy vs. other competitors, I thought the 8th G Accord's still one of the leaders in that regard in terms of real world fuel efficiency despite the EPA numbers? No? :dunno:

The 8th gen' USDM Accord sedan is still considered a mid-sized family sedan, it's only the non-moonroof versions (ie. LX/LX-P) that add a few cubic inches to the interior-capacity to bring the '08+ Accord sedans into the realm of full-sized family sedans.

It's not the proportions/dimensions, but rather the packaging of the 8th gen' Accord interior. The EX/EX-L sedans w/ the moonroof have mid-sized family sedan interior capacities.

Anything larger, the Accord would likely exceed my needs/requirements.

If you all can generalize for a moment, the current Accord, Camry, and Altima sedans all are more-or-less equals in terms of size/mass/girth, namely presence. Then, the Taurus, Malibu, etc' just look too needlessly big (IMHO). . .

For those who care, interior-capacities are rather interesting as the current Civic sedan equals the interior-capacity of the current BMW 5-series. Just think about that!?! :paranoid:

i believe you dont worry. I was talking about the 8th Gen lol,

Then why do you have so many Honda's take em back and get what you want :)
They belong to my parents. :D

Don't get me wrong, I love our Accord. It is just that the newer ones don't impress me as much.

And if my hours at work didn't drop so much during the winter, I would have a 2006 Fusion parked in my spot! :naughty:

I'm not going to have a car payment when I can have one for free! :lmao:

To All:

WHY is it that the Toyota Camry...and the Honda Accord...remain the world-standard "benchmarks"...when measuring ANY other sedan...in their class? :dunno:

in my neck of the woods i see 10 parked fusions in the emergency lane with mechanical problems while that 1 Accord drives by like its nothing
I love your reasoning.

Yeah, okay.

The Fusion has had above average reliability/quality ratings in every year of production.

My guess would be b/c they are the top two selling cars in their class.

Positively correlated, I think the applicable variables are "sales" and "quality," with variable #2 driving variable #1. Hence, the Camry and Accord SELL well...because they are designed and BUILT rather well! And being both popular and high quality, said cars have become the "de facto" standard by which all other Sedans, in their class, are measured.
