I have a 2014 Honda Accord Sport(2.4).

I noticed a strange smell a few weeks ago and heard water slushing around somewhere in the car but none visible inside. Then I noticed the back passenger floor was soaked, then the front carpet was soaked. After prying back some of the pieces and pulling up the carpets, there is quite a bit of water somehow leaking underneath the floor boards under the carpets.

- I do not have a sunroof
- No moisture or leaks coming from doors/seals
- Seats/cushions not wet
- No moisture in trunk
- Checked AC drain under the carpet in passenger front, looks to be connected and fine

After a few heavy rains, this occurred. The only answer I can think of at this point is that a water drain from the outside (perhaps front end), is clogged up and somehow rerouting the water underneath the floorboards. The water under the floorboards is not draining either, although not sure if it is even supposed to.

Has anyone else ran into this issue or have any advice?

Look under the car and see if there are any missing rubber plugs in the body. There is not supposed to be any water under the floorboards so that is a problem.

No sunroof makes me think windshield or cowl.

Is the car parked outside?

When you run your A/C, do you actually see water dripping/running out from the line onto the ground beneath the car? Or are you simply saying you pulled the carpet and noticed that the line was connected? A clogged A/C drain can easily flood the interior.

But you say this happens after hard rains....

Could be a bad windshield seal. Was it ever replaced or was car in an accident?

You can do the tried and true method of having a friend with a garden hose outside the car while you check from the inside.

You will have to get that carpet out to dry it properly to avoid mold.

Yes, the car is parked outside at all times, usually under trees where leaves/debris does get caught up in the front by the wipers, although I just cleaned them out recently, BEFORE the issues now.

The car has not been an accident.

I pulled the carpet up in the front, and I can see the AC line is connected. Tomorrow I will check to make sure the water is dripping from the line under the car. I ran AC today and did not see any water coming from the line under the carpet at all. I will run water over the hood and windows tomorrow to see if there are any changes.

It began before I went on a vacation, I washed my car and when I left I noticed a lot of water was coming out near the wheel wells and heard a slushing sound in the front, I thought it was strange.

After this, I did have a very tiny cooler tip over in the backseat during the trip, which I originally thought was the issue. I laid down towels and it dried it up fine after a few days.

The last time I drove the car was before a recent rainstorm, before I had used AC and had no issues. I did not drive the car at all during the storm, and sure enough the back was soaked leading me to find out the water in the floorboards.

**Also, I bought this car new off the lot and I've had it since, so there is no other driver history.

**Update:

I have checked AC , and it is draining out onto the ground. I poured water in the drains by the windshield cowl without taking it off, and noticed that the water drains to the driver side but not much drainage if any on the passenger side.

I shined a light in, and I can see sitting water under the cowl on passenger side. I vacuumed the water out from under the carpet, then poured more water into the cowl drain, and sure enough there seemed to be more water afterwards.

My next steps would be to remove the cowl and figure out what is blocking the drain, and how it is draining under the floor as well. Are there any manuals for a 2014 Accord? I can't seem to find any online.

So I was able to remove the cowl finally, and cleaned out the drain. It was maybe half a handful size of debris of leaves and dirt, and now it drains openly. I pulled back the carpet a bit more and the sponge cushioning under it is completely soaked with water, so I've been trying to squeeze as much as I can and vacuum it out. The front carpet is a bit more complicated to get out it seems so I haven't done too much.

Keeping the car on an angle so water will roll back to the back, I sprayed water over the front end and doors and I noticed a very minuscule amount showing up, but I'm still not sure if it was just some draining from the front carpet slowly.

I'm not sure what other steps I can take at this point, without having the carpets completely replaced.

You may want to pile up newspaper on top of the carpets everywhere to help draw the water out. Put down a few layers flat on the carpets and then pile wadded-up newspaper on top of those to increase the surface area and rate of evaporation. Replace the paper as soon as it gets wet.

You said you park outside all the time, but any chance you have someone with a (lockable) garage who'll let you park inside for the weekend? Then open the windows fully and maybe point a big electric fan inside to help evaporate the moisture. You may be able to rent one from a place that deals with home restorations after water leaks, if you don't have a fan. If you leave the doors open, the interior lights will come on and that might drain the battery, unless you can turn them all off.

And when it's dry, you may want to use a spray-on carpet cleaner to help remove the smells, and blot it dry afterwards. Then you may want to use something like Lysol spray to help keep mold/mildew and bacteria from growing. Test them in an inconspicuous area first to make sure they won't change the carpet color before you do the whole carpet.

Appreciate that this is an old thread, but I just had the same thing happen with my 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring. Basically, a puddle formed on the carpet of the back passenger side carpet. I do have a sunroof, but that seemed to be draining just fine. Then after reading this thread I went to check if the cowl was clogged. Sure enough the path that the water is suppose to take to drain out was completely clogged with muddy grime, leaves, and twigs. I cleaned it all out. Hope that solves the problem. As for the flooded carpet, we put down multiple large towels and weighed them down with a heavy box of tiles. The amount of water that was wicked out was incredible, basically 6 beach towels were soaked through by the end. Now we have moved the car in the garage and running a heater and dehumidifier. Thanks for the advice!!!!!!

I second a clogged A/C drain. That would account for all the issues.
