That's exactly what it is...identical to the Odysey and Pilot trans recalls.

The good news (?) is that so far that recall has been relatively painless and very few problems with damaged transmissions have been found. However, it will take a few years to see if the "fix" really works.

My condolences to those of us who have gotten the double-whammy (Pilot and Accord)...:(

here it is:

It appears Honda is reacting better this round of transmission troubles than they were with the 6th gen Accord problems. Next round, why don't they try to fix the problem in the design stage. I'm sure they will. Millions of dollars being spend here.

Part of me feels sorry for Honda....they THOUGHT they'd redesigned it so this stuff wouldn't happen & here we go again! At least this one is much more minor than what the others went through!

Of course, we are one of the double whammy ones. We still haven't scheduled the Pilot's look-see. It's been pretty busy at the shop. He keeps saying the next slow day...... He'll get on it quicker since mine's involved too. He doesn't allow whatever I drive to be neglected!

V6 vs I4

So I'm guessing that the V6 AT is somehow significantly different than the I4?

I have the I4 AT, need i be wooried, or think about a recall?

thanks,

Happy 4th,

Hugh Graham

Oil jet kit

Does anyone know what is involved in installing the oil jet kit? I have 13,700 on my Accord and the recall is only to install the kit, but not inspect until after 15K. Don't know if I should run out and drive like hell for 2 or 3 thousand to ensure a look at the transmission or trust in Honda to know there is no damage below 15K. Any thought??

So far, there's nothing going on with the 4 cyl. they have a completely different tranny.

I would just have the oil jet kit put on if you have less than 15K. Why would you want to put more miles on & risk any damage? I have about 8K & it'll just get the kit. The Pilot has 20K & will have to be inspected, have pictures taken & the kit. If you've already had unusal wear, you'd know it by noises. Only a small percentage have even had any problems, they're apparently trying to head the rest off! This kit goes where you fill the tranny fluid from what I see on the instructions, same as the Pilot. For some reason they pay the techs less time for the Accord. The reason is unknown....maybe they figure they've done a few by now....or there's less in the way.....

Remember, not ALL the '04's are even involved! They added an oil injection system before they turned loose of them!

This is minor & there's no reason to panic! Simply wait for your letter or make an appointment & have the kit put on. No dealer would claim there was no damage if there was....it would cost them MUCH MORE to replace the tranny!

I'm proud of them for trying to deal with this! So many companies just wait for the failures to happen, then fight with the owners about it! There is no such thing as a perfect machine! With a million moving parts, something can go wrong with any of them!
;)

I'm sure there's alot of Honda bashing going around some other car forums because of this... :( It seems like they sit there and wait for something to "happen" with Honda.

But I've always loved how Honda tries to head off the problems BEFORE anything happens! :)

Yeah, it's easy to bash Honda though because they are pretty up front about when there IS a problem. Out of the thousands of new V6's with AT's sold in our area my prince & the dealer he's at has dealt with 2, count them 2 trannies. Some of the dealers around here have done zero...

The vast majority of complaints are things like squeaks & rattles on the Accord, not drivetrain problems.

I'll keep our Hondas & get the oil jet kit on them both. :)

Yep, I won't be getting rid of my Honda any time soon either! (OK, that MAY be far fetched since I seem to trade 'em in every couple of years! BUT it won't stop me from getting another Honda! :D )

And more importantly, it won't stop me from trying to convince my husband to get rid of his '00 Sentra and replace it with an Accord, CRV, or Civic!!!! :D (Damn him and his will power! He is LOVING driving my Accord and wants one of his own!! It's only a matter fo time right?! Maybe I can talk him into the white ex v6 at for 23k?!?!? ;) )

injection kit

Thank's for the answer. My remark about adding mileage was somewhat tongue in cheek. I am content to wait for the recall letter. Over at Edmund's there are several posters already calliing Honda and jumping the line for inspections and kits. Does'nt make a lot of sense to me. I imagine Honda has a priority methos picked out and needs time to get the kits to the dealers. .Glad it is not major surgery to install. I have had my problems with the Accord and my dealer, but never over the engine or transmission. Nothing but triple aces for both so far.

I'm glad they decided to recall them this time. This has not been how Honda has handled things recently. They have been known to extend the warranty for only certain years of a generation when problems were known to exist for quite a while. A recall/fix is the only way to handle large/expensive sub-assemblies, rather then telling their customers to wait for a failure. Honda of old use to be proactive, maybe they are remembering their roots. It's about time.

Did anyone get a recall notification letter from Honda? Anyone get this recall fixed? How long was the repair?

I wonder when I'll get mine, just can't wait sitting around while there's something need to be fixed on my car.

They could take months to get all the letters out.....we still haven't got one for the Pilot & that one started mid-April!
